Has anyone personally experienced or know of anyone who has experienced losing their voice, after seeing or experiencing something shocking? If so, do you know of the exact medical term or a link where I could read information on it?

"Why Caged Birds Sing" (hope I get the title right) by Maya Angelou offers a detailed description of this phenomena. I don't know the medical term for it; but I have had first hand experience with it. I suffered a severe trauma when I was fourteen; and I didn't speak for almost six weeks after the fact. I must have been in shock...and it forced me to go deep within. I eventually emerged again...with profound insight. It took me a long time to find my voice again...as I did not feel heard. It subsequently launched my writing endeavors. One must assume that everything takes place for a reason.
