I like to keep the dogs active and think kongs are a great way of making food fun for them - can anyone suggest good snacks to put in them - The best so far is doggy biscuits and freezing them in gravy - or iced water - great in this hot weather... more ideas please?

I give my dogs all their meals in their Kongs (hey, no one gets a free lunch around here--they have to work for their food!). Here's what I do....

Per dog:
1 tbl all-natural fresh-ground peanut butter (no sugar or salt)
1 meal's ration of kibble (for my guys that's 1 cup)
1/4-1/2 cup water

Microwave for 45 seconds
-Stir it all up
-Stuff the Kongs, block off the small hole with a little training treat and then top off the large hole with a dog cookie
-Freeze the Kongs overnight.

I will also often get a small piece of rawhide and shove it into the Kong before stuffing, so that once they're done eating their food, they have to work to yank the piece of rawhide out for dessert. It seems to keep them occupied during the day while I'm at work.

My dogs have kongs but they don't really seem to like peanut butter. I will buy the can squirt flavored stuff they sell for the kongs.
It can be a little expensive but they will play with the kong with that junk in there. Two of my dogs will, anyway.

My three year old pitbull, Zacheri, don't really get into the kong thing too much. He will fool around with it for a little while but he will not stick with it until it is cleaned out.

The other two seem to like the liver flavored squirt stuff made for kongs.

I'm sorry but the idea of the kongs to me is a version of "how to keep a dummy busy". That's probably why Zacheri just do it for a few minutes and he moves on to something else. LOL

My dogs aren't dumb but the concept of the toy is dumb but it can keep the dogs occupied for a while. :D

Grated cheese, grated carrot, chopped cooked liver stand Kong in microwaveable cup then on the top spoon a bit of whisked raw egg microwave until egg is cooked leave to cool down and hey presto gourmet Kong, or you can mix all the ingredients together and micro for a short while., My 2 dogs love it!! and of course peanut butter.

Peanut butter has too much fat and gives my dog the mud butt. I put in kibble or small milkbones or veggies then mash a banana and freeze it. Bananas are cheap and kong quality bananas are extra cheap if not free from the grocery store.

My dog loves yogurt in his Kong. It lasts longer if you freeze the yogurt in the Kong. Another good "thinking" toy is the Buster Cube. We put the dogs' dry kibble in the Buster Cube and they have to figure out how to get it out. They really seem to enjoy it!

Try freezing some peanut butter. I know it sounds crazy but my dogs love it. It keeps them cool in the winter, but it has that peanut butter flavor that dogs love.
