why do scotch terrier growls when they are happy?

my friends dog is always growling but he is happy and moving his tail.

Happens with a lot of dog breeds. It means that he is reminding you that even though he is enjoying the attention, he is still dominant.

sounds like that his way or trying to talk to you. mine does that but he is a pit bull.

listen to him and if his growling sounds like the growling that he makes when someone is at the door, you might have a problem.

mine have different barks for different things.
