I have two beagles, both 3 yrs old. They rarely bark and I've never heard either of them howl.
But, they are indoor house dogs, and have little reason to bark or howl.
It seems the others on here who have commented on beagles that howl all seem to be discussing dogs who are left outdoors at night.
How do you intend to keep your beagle? If it's trained to live indoors, I would bet heavily that it would not be howling all night. Our dogs are perfectly content to sleep quietly and often go to bed before we do. They are great little dogs, and we've invested plenty of love, time, and effort to keep them that way.
Like any dog, a beagle needs to know a few things like who the boss is, where he can and cannot go, and what things are good and bad. If you teach him these things with consistency and care, you'll have a great and loyal dog.
PS - Beagles are awesome cuddlers.

Beagles, and Bassets, are not inherently barkers so when they do need to make noise, they tend to howl rather than bark because it's being done when they are unhappy. If left alone at night, they will be upset, and therefore may well howl rather than bark. The best advice I can give you is to bring your puppy Beagle into your room at night, in his crate. Have it alongside your bed, with the top and three sides covered. That way he shouldn't feel lonely. I did this with the two hounds we most recently bought in (a year apart) because I knew what was likely to happen if I left them in the kitchen alone. LOL. For my sake, and the sake of neighbours. Again like the Basset, Beagles are a pack animal, and don't do well being left on their own. If they are, they will howl - and be destructive too.

My neighbors have a beagle named Bagle, and he howls ALOT. But the only time he howls at night is when he gets taken outside, but he doesn't really howl all night long, otherwise, how could you handle a dog like that? You would never get to sleep! But beagles are cute, so you should get one.

My neighbors had beagles, the only time I ever heard them howl at night was when I howled at them first! Really, they only get loud when they are on the run or hunt as far as I know, and I really did howl at my neighbor's beagles when I was a kid!

I have a beagle and he never howls at night as long as he is inside with me. He will only howl if I leave him outside alone.
