And how does one go about getting certified in its use? I have about twenty five years experience with all manner of 3D programs, and I'd really like to put it to good professional use that doesn't involve the silliness of gaming.

The firm I work for (and the rest of our clients and partners) all use AUTOCAD. You can get certified in AUTOCAD in about a year. go to your local community college and you should be able to register for classes there.

First you should know that there is no program called CAD. CAD is a type of software(computer aided drafting). They still use cad software like AutoCAD, Solid works, and mircostation.

You may want to check out Auto CAD, its a simpler and easier program than CAD. For the Cad program you dont need a license to use it, but you do have to purchase the program and i think its around $17,000. Give or take a few thousand.

I would have to say that AutoCAD is probably one of the most widely used programs used in industry today. Solidworks is also extremely popular for drafting.

Until we develop a holographic drafting program, AutoCAD will probably be the program to use.
