I have a maltipoo (mix maltiese and poodle), I have owned him for about 7 mounths he is about 9 mounths old. We started to tain him to go potty on a pee pad we had for him, along with takeing him out side. After about 3 months he was basicly potty train to go on the pad but not outside (he just wouldnt go pee or poop outside). He now goes pee out side but wont poop outside but Im not even sure if he is really goin pee b/c he has to pee or if he is just marking his taritory (we dont have any other dogs or cats that are in are yard) b/c he will go about 10 times just a little. Well recently he has been going pee in the house all over the place,he lifts up his leg to go on the wall on the curtains, on the couch...and he will just about go pee anywhere. What I am wondering is why is my dog doing this and what can I do to stop it. I would rather not hit him or shove his nose in it. Just to let you know if it has any factor I do have 2 cats also male and a bird also a male.

He is marking over the scent of the cat for one. And number two, if you take him outdoors, you aren't staying outside long enough for him to learn to go, so stay out there for however long it takes him to do his business and give him a verbal reward for it. He won't go outdoors for bathroom breaks if you allow him to also use it indoors on a pee pad. I never thought that was a good idea to begin with.

Is he neutered? If not, that is part of the problem. If he is still using the pee pads at all, start slowly moving them closer to the outside door, over several days, or even a couple of weeks. Eventually, his spot will be outside, and you won't have to use them any more. And I agree with others, he isn't spending enough time outside to take care of his business. He needs lots of praise when he pees outside. You might need to start crate training him, too at least until the problem is solved. There are plenty of books available to help with that.

He is marking his territory. Usually if you get the animal fixed asap, it will not do that. Once they start, I believe it is harder to train them. Some people use the crate when they are not home and at night and take the pet outside very often while they are there until the pet gets the hang of it. Also, ask your vet or hire a dog trainer. Best of luck.

Best bet is to take him to petco
They have potty training sessions...
but your should really decide soon..
because once past 12 month.. it would be really hard to train him.

And since he IS a male
You should take him outside whenever you can.
Marking territory..YEs, but you get the peeing going that way.

good luck

Male dogs are bad about marking their territory. Every time you catch him say NO sternly and put him outside. You might also try some of the sprays that are supposed to keep dogs away - check with your pet supply. Also, neutering might help.

it could be a great number of things, you should see a vet.

and make sure you clean your house thoroughly. it will smell terrible if you don't.

Put vinegar on the spots that he pees. They don't like the smell and will quit doing it.
