My boxer jumps on people when they come over or when people are walking by, even kids!! I know she is just excited and wanting to play, but how can I make her stop this! We are even thinking of getting rid of her =...(
When we put her in her cage, just to have sanity around our guests, she doesn't stop barking and when we let her out, she just jumps more!

Guess they have said it all. Training training, training. Let her know what's not allowed. If you do leave her in the cage, eventually she will quieten down and get used to it. Might take a week or so.

Control your dog cuz right now it's the dog that has you by the leash and collar. If the dog is not a puppy, training her will probably be more difficult, but just as rewarding when you the dog follows your wishes instead of the other way around. If you don't want to take the time to work it out, enroll the dog in doggy obedience school and have someone knowledgable train your dog. Getting rid of the dog shows your lack of discipline, not the dogs. I hope you understand proper discipline better before you decide to have kids. Good luck.

I would never recommend having people bend over, if she is that excited, she could accidently head butt someone or worse yet, scratch them in the face with claws or teeth. The most recommended thing to do is to have people bring their knee up so that it hits the dog in the chest. This does not hurt so much as shock the dog and it WILL break the habit. Do NOT say anything when you or others do it, then the dog will pay more attention to the voice then the knee. This is the method I've used for over 20 years.

my dog does the exact same thing!!!! i really don't mind it cuz i know she is just over whelmed to see me but once she jumped on my 5 year old cousin! so what I've been doing lately is everytime i go out and i see she spring into action, i put my hands out and catch her paws or if she succeeded and her paws touch me i get ahold of her by her paws, look into her eyes tell her a firm 'no'
and push her back onto the ground.....not to hard..kinda gently. taking ur dog to get trained is a good idea too, but good pet care starts at home...

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/XJCeT
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

tell the people to bend down when your dog jumps. Then it can't jump as much and it won't. just tell people to bend down when it starts jumping. it works on my friends dog.

She is doing it solely for attention. If she jumps, she gets petted or at least touched somehow. When she jumps up, just turn away from her and pay her no attention. When she does come up and doesn't jump, that is when you pet her. She will soon recognize that she gets attention only when she is behaving.

Needs training. In short..
Generally, when it jumps up on you, raise your to deflect it (Not hit it with your knee)...Also have others do this and arrange others to visit and do this...It takes about a week or two (Must be done consistantly), but they should stop jumping.
You may want to train her to great people by doing somthing else (As in a trick, such as wave her paw).

put a handful of pennies in an empty soda can.....
a can...aluminum...not a plastic bottle....
now, this will only work if you have a few of these cans laying around in strategic areas so you will always have one near if she jumps up......
then, when she jumps...immediately shake the can in her face and say " NO! NO ! ".........shake it good and hard, you WANT to scare the khrap out of her.....
she'll get the idea after a few days.........and, if you leave a can where she can see it...she'll remember.....
