There is nothing wrong with allowing a child to begin "dating" at the age of sixteen. It is a normal part of their socialization and prohibiting dating will stunt their growth socially as well as ostracize them from their peer group.
Besides, at 16 you are still able to influence attitudes about dating and sexual relationships and you can monitor their behavior. At 18, good luck because the gloves are off.

I think its important to allow this type of relationship. I would suggest though you take him out on a date and show him how to treat a girl. Or maybe get his father or a guy you trust to talk to him on how to treat a girl. I would diffenetly keep him monitored. not that you dont trust your son but you you cant trust girls these days either. we as parents want to help our kids make good decisions but and we can help by not letting be in a situation that they could make a bad choice. We have to give them so space. letting him take a girl to the movies would be fine but I would never let him go over her house or some place where they could explore themselves if you know what I mean. seems like these days there is so much disrespect from boys as they grow into men. and the same with girls also. we need to monitor now so they dont become that way. So I say go ahead let him but with rules and a good talk on how to treat a girl whats not exceptable and what is. good luck.

look I don't know about women, but if he's 16 then he has been "interested" for about 3-4 years already... People have to learn from their experiences and mistakes so let him go ahead and date.... Just make sure he knows all the things you might want him to know and from here it is his own character that will guide him along with the few words of advise that accidentally stuck in his head!!

i think 16/17 is a good age for group dating such as to the amusement park, or roller skating. If your child is proven trust worthy then by 18 they should be allowed to go on dates.

My parents started letting me date when I was 16, but now looking back on it.. I don't think I was ready to date. It just all depends on exactly how mature you think your teen is. To me... probably will allow my kids to start dating when they are 17 or 18.

deternine what date means to you in your household....meeting @ a group function? taking your car and being gone until? does he just want more freedom with a certain female or with coed group of friends? He has probably been interested for a while (16year old male?!?!!?) but thought it more apporpriate to wait till 16 to bring it up which may give you more insight to what type or rules to creat. Is he responsible consistently etc.....good luck

You should let him date now. Alot of guys and girls start dating before 16. Just tell him to be sensible.

That is a very normal age, sometimes earlier. Give the boy some independence
