My sister is moving out in two weeks. Her birthday is tomorrow and I'm putting together a "I moved out, and now have a pad of my own" survival kit. Here's what I came up with so far:

1.) Really nice pillows for your couch.
2.) Board Games

I need like 8 more things.

Ideas Please!!!!!!!!!

How about a cool/trendy pattern set of dishes/glasswear to entertain w/; a nice throw blanket to go w/the pillows, a cool lamp and picture of something you know she would like but has some of ur taste in it as well so she will always know where it came from! Picture frames are always nice. Even like an American Express gift card which can be purchased just about anywhere so if she gets into a little bind it can help money wise. Grocery store gift cards are great too. Also you could get her a few dept. store gift cards from diff places so she could get what she wants when she needs it. That's a gift that could go a long while. If you have an Ikea or Target they have great things you can get ideas from just by looking and if your giving it to her tomorrow and can't get the rest of the stuff then print copies of it and say that you will have it mailed to her new pad! Nothing like getting fun stuff in the mail instead of bills!! Good luck.

Go to Pier one or Bombay and get her a Gift Certificate so she can decorate it, also put in the box toilet paper, paper towel, a new magazine subscription for her new place and don't forget the alcohol ( Beer, Winecoolers, Wine,) what ever she likes to drink and then a case of bottled water for her to have so that she can have something to hydrate her self while moving in the heat, also a video rental membership and movies for her at night, would be good and something memorable from just the 2 of yo like a pic of you guys together in a frame or a blanky from when you were little or something.

One good and cheap idea is to get an idea of her favorite restaurants with take out and write them down in some kind of book. That way, when she doesn't want to cook, the numbers (with a take out menu if you can get one) is right there. That can also include pizza.

Some practical but super appreciated stuff....
Another thing is a first aid kit and stuff like tylenol
A flashlight...just because being away from home can make people nervous especially at night. You can also include pepper spray or something of a similar nature, just so she will feel safe.
Also you can get her a small tool kit, in case she needs to fix something. (a small sewing kit is a good idea too)

Candles; mirror; a lamp or two; bookcase; linens (comforter, sheet set, bathroom towels/wash cloths, placemats or table runners); some nice soaps for either her or to put out for company in the bathroom; glassware; footstool; inexpensive but nice artwork; dishes/utensils.

How about get her things like mustard, ketsup, mayo, peanut butter and jelly, salt, pepper, crackers, sugar, flour, butter, etc? Things that you need on hand to cook with. You don't realize how much you use those things and how much it costs to stock your new kitchen with them.

Good luck!
