I have hair that is ridiculous. If I wash it and go it's totally curly and short. If I blow dry it, it's down my back. So yeah, it's thick.
The best thing I have found so far is Paul Mitchell Pomeade. You can wear it in any style, it will not dry out and keeps your hair in place all day.
Also, a flat iron is a MIRACLE. If it came down to it, I would trade my man for it. It uses steam technology to straighten the hair and does not burn it like conventional curling irons. Just make sure you get a good one. They run from $60-$150 but are DAMN worth it.
Another thing that helps my hair. As soon as i get into the shower, even if I do not wash my hair, i soak it in a really good conditioner and THEN take my shower as normal. By the time I get out the conditioner has been moisturizing for 8-10 minutes and will make your locks feel and smell like heaven.

I have thick curly hair. It's not really curly but it's more of a combination of curly and wavy. The hair underneath (near my neck) gets really curly while the hair on the top gets wavy. It gets really annoying sometimes but you deal. You learn to except it. =]

I used to but not anymore, I permed it, I could not manage my hair with that texture plus it was also long. Since then I have gotten a perm and a cut, and love it.

Oh, and all you girls who are straightening your hair... STOP IT! Let your huge curls fly free! If you absolutely MUST do something about it, use a heavy leave-in conditioner to weigh it down a bit and keep it from getting frizzy.
