"No man is an island, entire of itself; every
man is a piece of the continent, a part of the
main. If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory
were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or
of thine own were: any man's death diminishes
me, because I am involved in mankind, and
therefore never send to know for whom the bells
tolls; it tolls for thee."

John Donne

Dear Sinyckle: You chose a well-known verse by Donne. It has such apparent beauty - that an energy went out from me as I read it.

He speaks of the deepest heights his soul can reach. For he knows his One-ness to the ALL - the Kingdom - who he loves as the Father loves His Creation.

You see, not one - no - not one single life can be lost or Donne is lost. His One-ness is the intermingle-ing of his soul in the essence of his brother's spirit body and their souls - that vastness that is ours and our Father's - filling all space and dimensions. Joined as One through the One Mind (the channel we share with the Holy Creator - that communion never ceases -and all knowledge is known and shared).

If we were not Eternal - as Created - a single demise - one solitary death would render him split apart from his WHOLENESS. Dear God Almighty - he cannot be apart from his Wholeness - His Self that is all of YOU! Diminish him not! Know you are eternal and part of him forever.

Then he comes back down to the physical human thoughts of Man and states his One-ness is due to how involved he is in mankind - as you tend to see yourself. Don't ask to know for whom the bells toll (human illusion of "death") for if you look upon such an illusion as "death" it then becomes real for you and becomes what you will own also. It will toll for thee - as well.

Keep you thoughts on Reality.

Thank you for this poem. I thank our brother Donne's soul -through the One Mind - for giving me that poem.

I don't know that I'd call it a poem. I guess the language is pretty poetic but I've always thought of it as just flowery prose. Anyway, I enjoy meditation 17 and agree with its call for a certain sense of unity. However, I do not agree with some of its comments on death.
