NO...I worked at Camp Langston when I was 14 and one of the counselors, really more as just a kidding around thing, put just a little bit on a kids tounge because he said a curse word. He had an allergic reaction to something in the soap and his tounge swelled up and they had to put a NG tube down his throat so he could breathe. He almost died. They had to medivac him to the emergency room.
My God ...did I actually just read someone on here say they put hot sauce in their kids mouths when when they misbehaved when they were 1,2 & 3 years old??? This is a perfect reason why parenting classes should be a REQUIRED course in highschool...

I agree with soap. It taught my son to stop saying the F bomb after he heard someone say it. Now he reminds my husband and I if we say bad words we'll get soap put in our mouth which I agree with also. I told him if he caught me he can put a drop on my tongue. All I did was put 1 tiny drop on his tongue and after about 10 seconds of him crying I gave him a drink- it worked. I did this as a last resort. Time out did not work.

I had it done too with no ill effects, but I still have a potty mouth. I would have to say it will not harm your kids, but in todays social climate you may find yourself involved with DCS if your kids teachers get wind of it. Probably not worth it.
If you insist on procedeing make sure you use a natural soap.

Oh I had the ole "soap in the mouth" treatment too. Didn't kill me. It tasted awful but I learned a lesson. However, I think the tobasco thing is a bit too much. That is painful. I wouldn't do that.

Swallowing any amount of soap is bad. My brother and I had it put just on the outside of our mouths and it certainly worked. Just make sure they rinse really well afterward. It's more about humiliation than discomfort though. There are of course better ways of teaching discipline that do not involve negative reinforcement. No need to just keep on continuing a bad trend and not find a better way.

My older son used to eat soap when I'd bathe him (he started doing this as soon as he could pick up the bar...at about 8 months old). He lived to tell about it. :)
I don't know about the Tabasco sauce though...that sounds cruel to me.

It all depends on how comfortable you are doing those things. My parents did that to me as well, but I hated it. You do what you think is right. Lots of people are going to tell you how to raise your children.
Just make sure that if you are living in a 2 parent home that you both agree on these actions.

nothing wrong with it, just make sure the kid is old enough to know what swearing is, and old enough not to swallow any soap. parents are too easy on kids nowadays, kids don't learn that there's consequences to the things they do.

if it is, i'll be in deep trouble! My parents had me give the ol' soap bar a lick for every curse! (with the threat of washing my mouth out if they heard me repeat it again)! worked everytime!
