The biggest problem I've seen with my friends training their lab is that they didn't motivate him. My corgi loves food, so the best training is done during dinner-time with kibble as the motivation. But their lab got really bored with treats. Eventually what they did was reward him with play time. They would go outside, get him to do a trick or whatnot a few times, then throw a frisbee around a few times. All dogs are different in that way. Good luck!

Chocolate coloured Labrador Retrievers are no more difficult to train than yellows or blacks.
Most Labradors respond well to training as they are intelligent and highly motivated. Positive reinforcement of good behaviour and reward based training including praise, play and food should produce results.
If you are having problems why not contact the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) - they have a website where you can locate your nearest trainer.

Labs are one of the easy breeds to train. You need help from a good instructor or book if you are not getting through.

They are more difficult to train because the have a higher temper and take longer to mature compared to black and yellow labs.

They aren't maybe its you that needs some training yourself first, don't expect your dog to understand something you aren't sure of yourself, find a good book or go to a good training school as you will both benefit from it and good luck.
