Atheist on yahoo answers love to brag about how intelligent they are and how far their thoughts have evolved pass those around them. And I consider myself pretty open minded and listen and they routinely say a hypothesis that proves to me that atheist arent deeper in thought than anyone else. They always say no religion no wars. So completely false
This shows a fundamental lack of understanding and an incredible naivity about human nature, as well as a laziness in basic history research and and looking at SCIENTIFIC studies. War is nothing but basic human nature such as greed for power and land or revenge, pumped up on a grand scale. When you hunk at someone for cutting you off you have demonstrated the very essence of war. When you get jealous of someone for having more success than you, a bigger house, car, smarter, better looking you are proof that wars have nothing to do with religion. To say it does is the same lazy excuse making thinking that you so frequently accuse theist o

Just look at this response:
"If the were only athiests in the world then you wouldn't have wars about religion. Since religion is a major point in 99% of the wars we have had in history...then yes...there would be no more wars."
See what I mean. 99%??? I guess that would not include those minor skimishes like World War I,World War II, Vietnam War, Civil War, American Revolution,Korean War......etc.
As I said, this type of thinking by atheist not only shows intellectual laziness but a bit of brainwashing too

Okay. You had me with your first paragraph, but somewhere in your incoherent babble in the second one you lost me. As you stated: "War is nothing but basic human nature such as greed for power and land or revenge, pumped up on a grand scale." That plus religion is the whole cause of the war between Palestine and Israel. Palestine wants their "holy" land that Israel is on. Back in the day of The Crusades were about this same piece of "holy" land, where the Christians actually ate people, in the name of God. It's not just wars either. Religions can cause jsut blatant attacks on people, having extremists think that they are doing "God/Allah/whatever"'s bidding, and that in doing so they are righteous and holy. That doesn't seem very peaceful to me.
As I answered in a question like yours before, religion does have it's good points. Many of the American values and rights come from the Christian word, it did give everyone a sense of right and wrong, but now a days it's use has been worn out. Our societies standards teach us right from wrong now, we no longer need religion. Now, it only causes problems.
Finally, for the most part, I agree with you. There would still be wars whether or not there was religion, and there probably would be a lot more if there wasn't any religion to begin with, but I feel that you also disproved your main point by your bashing of the Athiests. If you had a bit more say in today's society, you would have caused a big uproar thoughout the world. You would have stirred up an entire group of Athiest people, because of what? Religion.

Actually Christians suggest that atheist feel that way. Christians think they are more perfect than god. From what I have seen on this site, they are the least perfect people on earth. Now do you see how ridiculous you are? If there was no religion, there would be less war. People would see that fighting is bad, because this life is all you have, so it is bad to die. Wars would be fought over resources not superstition. With no religion man would be less divided, and could work together to solve problems.Humans are social animals, and we are programed to work together, but religion is a primitive coping tool/control method than many are not evolved enough to see through. Christianity says, do what you want, you do not have to be responsible, because Jesus forgives you, and murder is OK. Repent, and the problem goes away. Christians kill in the name of god, because they think that gets them into the Sky land, where they sit on clouds for eternity.
You think the listed wars are not about religion? WW2= Nazis try to kill Jews for killing Christ, Italy wants HOLY roman empire back, Japanese think they are gods people. The other were about Communism. Communism is where the dictator is the god=religion. You want to talk about intelectual lazyness, look at your self. If all else fails, we can use christian defense. Those were not true atheists in those wars. Like true christians don't launch crusades. Live up to it. Religion caused all the wars you talk about.

Religion is usually only an excuse for war. The true causes of war are greed, jealousy, power , inferiority complexes and boredom. If you look at "Religious" wars closely it is usually and excuse to wage war on someone else to get what they have or to exert your power over someone else. I would easily say that there have been no wars based on differences of religion alone. Usually leaders take differences of religion and use them as an excuse to get their population behind the war. The statement that with no religion there would be no war is overly simplistic, even the crusades the crusaders were promised the riches of the holy lands for themselves. The Pope got a lot of young knights and soldiers out of Europe where they were causing a lot of problems amongst each other with pointless fighting and wars.

An Atheist has no belief in any god. So in doing so they are saying mankind is equivalent to animals. Take a look at the animal kingdom. There is constant killing there. There is no moral ethics when a lioness brings down her pray. Did anyone ever watch a cat torture its pray to death? They let them go so far and then recapture them. So if it's the basic instinct for Atheists, call it whatever you will, but as far as peace goes it will never happen. Evolution in a higher mentality of animals means nothing if you are still an animal. The rule of the jungle applies in the jungle. Survival of the fittest and all of that, children are not strong and capable of defending themselves against the adult In this case you always have the stronger overpowering what they perceive as weaker unless there is a strong moral and ethical background.

>>>They always say no religion no wars. So completely false<<<
I completely agree with you.
The historical fact is, very few of the world's wars have ever had anything to do with religion.
Not to mention, the most murderous form of government by far in world history is Communism. It has killed over 100 million of its own people, and counting.
Communism is, historically, an officially atheist political system. Most Communist governments have ruthlessly persecuted people who practice any religion.
So, if it's true that "atheism = peace," then what's with all the bloodshed perpetrated by this officially atheist political system known as Communism? What kind of peace is that?
In fact, the institution of The State in general -- Communist, Fascist, whatever -- is responsible for far more bloodshed than everything else in world history put together.
An untold amount of death, persecution, and atrocity has been perpetrated in The State's name -- Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Castro, Pol Pot, Kim Jong Il, the list goes on and on and on.

Yeah, a lot of the wars in Africa right now are about diamonds, money, race, and power. People are being slaughtered no matter what their religion. Are religions sometimes used by some war starters as a tool to get people in them (oh yeah, look at the crusades), but I suspect those war starters could have succeeded without religion, there are plenty of other things out there that people feel passionately about (being hungry and the French revolution comes to mind).

To address the question I would argue plainly that if there were only atheist in the world, the wars we wage would be ten times worse. Because believe it or not atheist understand the good effects of religion and they know that without religion ethics would something less and less seen.
Without religion the wars would be worse due to the whole ability for no rational reason to do good or be proportionate in ones attacks. For instance, without religion it would be even easier for a crazed president to simply say lets just nuke so and so cause they attacked us.
Stem Cell research would probably get streamlined... I mean without religion moral issues would be defined by more practical terms than moral ones.

Human Nature is defined by the indivisual. War, greed and general douche baggedness are NOT genetically engraved in every humans DNA. The fact that humans have Free Will is to blame. If all people thought the same way and had no personality, there would no disagreement therefore, no war.
