REGION 2 -- Japan, Europe, South Africa, Middle East, Greenland

By default DVD player can read only DVD's from the region it has been made for. If you have region 2 DVD player it wont let you read region 4 DVD's. However, region protection can be removed by entering a special code via remote. It varies on the manifactured. See your DVD player brand and a model and look up for more details on the Internet.

No. DVD players will only play the regions they are coded with. That said some DVD players are multi region and most DVD players can be hacked to allow them to play multi region.

You can get codes for your particular DVD player in order to make it a multi regional one. I can't remember the name of the website but it's worth doing as your DVD player will play everything.

You won't find players sold in such retailers advertised and sold as other than region 1, it would be illegal to sell them as other regions, or region free. Store employees are not supposed to discuss actual or possible non-region 1 capabilities. Some lesser brand players can be region hacked. Major brands usually cannot.

if your player is multi region it can, otherwise due to licensing agreements set down by the film industry your player can only play discs from the region it's sold in.
