Fact could be you have a mixed bag. Are you in therapy? Dealing with your issues in therapy are helped by medication. You playing doctor does not. If a med is not working for you contact your psychiatrist not a Yahoo Answer board. You know that you just want someone to give you an answer that you like. I won't.
If you want to have a stable life act in a stable fashion. Go to your support group, psychiatrist, and therapist regularly. Don't miss appointments.

That sounds really overwhelming, but it's actually a lot fewer diagnoses than it sounds like. Bipolar disorder is also known as manic depression (that's the old name for it). It means that you go through periods of being depressed, and periods of being highly active, sometimes to the point of being 'manic.' That's why it's called bipolar, it's like your body has these two different poles of energy and you sometimes fluctuate between them. You probably first had a diagnosis of depression, and then they noticed the "manic" periods and recognized that it was actually bipolarism. That disease is very genetically based and has to do with chemicals in your brain, and is often treated by Lithium. Personnality disorders are considered somewhat different from (Axis 1) mental disorders like bipolar disorder, because they're difficult to treat - it's not that a chemical in your brain is screwing up, it's that you've learned to cope with life in a certain way that sometime's maladaptive. It's very common to have both a personality disorder and a Axis-1 mental disorder - it just means that you're dealing with one mental disease (bipolar disorder) and that it's made more difficult to treat by a maladaptive personality pattern you've developed (borderline personality disorder). Most of the medications you've listed sound pretty standard to deal with issues like the depression aspects of bipolar disorder (Zoloft, Prozac). Some antidepressants don't work on certain people, and so you might have been on a few different ones until one was found that worked for you. I'm not sure what the other medication is for. I know this must be really overwhelming, and dealing with these disorders is going to feel like an uphill battle most of the time. The point is, you should be dealing with doctors who are willing to explain all of this to you and put it in terms that you can understand, so that you don't feel like you're grappling with four or more disorders when actually it's just one or two. Find a good psychiatrist and/or counsellor who is willing to discuss options with you and always keep you updated on what's going on. It's your body and mind, you have a right to be in the know and not have to go onto Yahoo! answers for an explanation. Good luck, hope this helps!

Heather, did someone in your family abuse you? I can't help but wonder...so many kids get abused in their families when they were little, and the parents always take the child to a shrink. Is anyone in your family the same way? I know a person who was so tormented when he was a little boy, sexualy abused, neglected, banned from his family and was then diagnosed as a phsycopath,...because of what they did to HIM...you are acting out because something traumatized you as a child..and they blamed you for it. You know it isnt right...you know you didn't do anything wrong, but someone else is blaming you so they don't get introuble for their deeds I think I think this very strongly. It has messed you up...because you are not getting to the root of it. You have probably been put down all your life by those that say they love you. I am sorry, I don't mean to be harsh..but unless there is inherent mental illness in your family, i strongly suspect someone you love has hurt you deeply...and let you carry the guilt. I think once you really start reading the Bible, or taking a Bible study, and learning to forgive the people who abused you, and accepting Jesus and God into your life, you won't get better. It is amazing what a great Healer the Lord is......you went through these things for some reason. Please, I am not sure if you can email me, but I would be happy to let you talk....I pray that you can be healed through the love of the Lord. God bless

So many psychologist don't know what they're saying these days. So many people have been diagnosed with illnesses that they don't have, that it's hard for anyone to even know the real symptoms of them anymore! You need to find one psychologist that you really trust, and seems to diagnose and treat his or her other patients well. Even if you end up trying 10 psychologists you don't like, keep looking for that one who just does a good job and doesn't try to perscribe you with about a million medications. Best of luck!

You have been caught up in the mental health corporation, whose goal is to be and remain essential to all human beings in the Galaxy. Because this means they have job security. There's a good possibility that NOTHING is wrong with you. You won't know until you are medication free and can think clearly. Then you might figure out what, if anything, is wrong with you.

Sounds like they DON'T know what's wrong with you if they keep trying different things and nothing works.
Borderline personality is somewhat treatment resistant... it might be that... or it might be a very bad case of one of the above...
Or something else entirely.
Usually you get many opinions where it is unclear - and many attempts at treatment because nothing is working...
Have you followed through the medication courses to full doses? have you tried cognitive behavioural therapy?

I would go again to a new doctor and have him run tests on you and see if they can come up with 1-3 possiblilties and actually figure out what is wrong---

I would definitely get a very new, young doctor to run some bloodtests on you. Get a new, fresh opinion and I feel you'll be good as new!
