If your question was how it is possible to get them to drink the barium it is because hospitals flavor it for children. Fortunately, the taste buds of children aren't developed to our degree so many will drink the solution without too much coaxing.
However, if your child will not drink, a small tube will be placed through the nose into the stomach so that barium can be introduced in this way. This does not hurt but your child won't like it and will fuss so please don't let it distress you. The test would not be done if it wasn't absolutely necessary so keep in mind that you are being a great parent by protecting your child's health.
