The same reason they have to sit on the newspaper you are trying to read...to get some attention!

She doesn't understand why you are staring at a boring screen for so long. But if you have to do it, it would probably better to have the company of your beloved cat than do have to do it alone. My cat in sitting between my monitor and the CPU as I type this.
The book and paper thing--There are two theories on this. One is that cats have developed a special organ in their abdomens that can read print, sending it to their brains without the bother of using their eyes. The other is that when cats see us looking at boring black and white type they feel sorry for us and give us something more interesting to look at, their own beautiful selves.

My cats only like the computer when it's warm from being on! Same with the tv. But more than that they just want me to feed them and give them treats. My dog is the same way (a corgi) since he's a herding dog he likes to watch over whatever room we're in and keep us there.

You're sitting still and they want your attention. It really has nothing to do with the computer itself. The same thing happens if you're reading the paper, talking on the phone, etc.

cats like the heat that is produced by the computer when you are using it. Not just for attention. So when you are not on it, it doesn't get that warm and they wont mess with it.

They want your attention and they also like the warmth of the keyboard. My cat also lies across whatever I'm reading and plays with the yarn when I'm crocheting.

Besides wanting attention, my sister's kitten was fascinated by the sound of fingertips on the keyboard.

i no that happens 2 me they want 2 b loved so they try 2 get u off the computer then wen they do they want u 2 pet them

they LUVVVVVVVVV you!!! and of course, they do it for affection!!! mine do this too. especially my 5 month old male. I get soooooo annoyed though when they walk all over the keyboard and printer. my 2 year old female has this habit about sitting right on top of the keyboard when I'm on the computer!! she weighs about 16 lbs. so she's definatly not easy to move!!! LOL!!!! I LUVVVVVVVVV THEM ANYWAY THOUGH!!!!!!!!!

They want your attention, and since your focusing on one thing they figure it is a great time to get you to focus on THEM!
