Once you feel a cold sore forming around your mouth, take an ice cube an put it in the affected area. Hold the ice cube with a small towel of some sort, and just leave it on the cold sore until the ice cube is gone. It usually takes 3 or 4 ice cubes in order to minimize the swollen cold sore. Just make sure that you this procedure BEFORE the cold sore has matured and is already visible. Good luck!!

cold sores is herpes simplex type one, and many people get infected with them as children, from kissing parents and so on. They arent dirty, use abreva, a little pricey, anywhere from 12-17 dollars.its worth it but you have to use it within the first 32hrs you feel it coming on, it says use it 5 times a day but i used it every hour and mine waws gone in two days, with no red mark or anything, and it has a money back gaurentee, so save the receipt if you dont care for it.and go to the abreva website

I used viralief cream and that stopped it within 2-3 days.
Abreva or Zovirax works good too.

Abreva works very well, shortens the life span of the blisters. Keeps them from hurting.
