Turns out you have quite a few choices, including some cheap ones. But of course, you get what you pay for - so we'll start expensive, and put the cheap ones at the end.
*
If you can spend lots of money, there's the Tesla - it's the ultimate electric car - The Tesla outperforms most sports cars, with 0-60 acceleration in 4 seconds, 130mph top speed, 250-mile range, and batteries guaranteed for 100,000 miles:

*
For $28,500, there's the imported XS200, available next year. This car looks really good - 200 miles per charge, 80mph top speed:

*
If you have about $25,000 to spend, there's the NMG (no more gas) vehicle - it looks funny but is very efficient:

*
If you've only got $10,000, and you don't need to get on the freeway, there's the ZAP:

*
But if you want to do freeways, but haven't got much money, there's a bunch of used EVs, hobbyist-built EVs, and converted gas vehicles for sale at places like this:

*
Conversions of gas vehicles are done by GrassRootsEV above, and also by:

You can also look on eBay. I bought a used EV on eBay for about $2000 last year, and spent another $4000 to fix it up. All these conversions are old technology EVs, which means a 50-mile range, not a 100-mile range. But I still drive mine almost everywhere. My electricity cost is just a little over 1 cent per mile. Beat that!
