Our son is 9 and a half months old. He has just learned how to pull himself up onto things, so to play it safe, we lowered his crib mattress to the lowest position. Now he REFUSES to be in his crib. We still follow the same routine every day, and everything is still in it's original place in his crib (except the mattress level of course). He usually take three naps a day (25-45 minutes each) and is in bed for about 7:30 at night....These bed/nap times take him over an hour to fall asleep...he just cries.
Has anyone esle recently gone through this? What are some suggestions to make this transition easier for all of us?

P>S> I have tried to not put him down for a nap...and even tried a later bed time...he is truly tired when I put him in his crib, and I don't want him to think that if he cries long enough, I will go get him. He always used to fall right to sleep once he was put into his crib.

It's a common phenomenon.

Try controlled crying.

It is common. Almost all children go through this. He is also almost 10 months old, I'm actually surprised you haven't had to deal with this earlier. He is getting older to learn to test limits, and learning that crying gets him stuff, instead of in infancy when they cry for specific reason like hunger, pain, diaper change. I know it is the hardest thing in the world to listen to your precious one cry, but it has to be done, or you will both go crazy! I usually can't last past ten minutes, an my heart is breaking the whole time, but we must get used to doing what is best for our children early, sad but true! Try setting a timer for 10 or 15 minutes, and wearing some headphones, might help with the stress level a little. it usually only takes a couple times of doing this before they get the hint, GOOD LUCK!!

My kids did the same thing...alright 2 of them did, I just assumed the 3rd would too :-0 They were terrified to be lowered in it...claustrfphobic maybe??? I put them in a toddler bed with a full guard rail up...they didn't fall out or get out of bed once. Good luck!

He has to get use to it. My son did it too, hes 9 months, it took about a week for him to get use to it, so just wait and see, he has to learn that its still the same room and crib.
