Sheesh - some of the comments made are just so horrible. Would you eat your food in a toilet? Then how could you expect a small baby to feed in a toilet?
In this country peopel fight for the right to see page 3 girls topless, go to the beach without a top on, have cleavage down to the navel, pose topless - you only have to see some of the pics as exhibited by people here - and yet, to see a breast put to its purpose, is put on the same level as seeing a penis! What is dirty about a breast?
Also, women are usually very discreet. Please don't be so narrow minded. Ask yourself why you are so offended. and acknowledge your problems. Don't make a small baby pay for your perverted reactions.

I think some women can be attention seeking when they breast feed. I think being discreet about things shows respect for everyone. No one says don't breast feed in public, just do with a proper top so no one is any the wiser OR go to a mother and baby room (provided most places) OR ask when out if you can go to a quiet area for you. Breast feeding is fine by me. Just don't hang your **** out in the middle of a room draw total attention to yourself when people can't help but look anywhere else and then complain others have a hang up on breast feeding. Always the same type of women who do this to, never the smart women who just get on with things.

In Nigeria, A nursing mother's breast is jokingly referred to as the Federal Government's Property just to encourage women to breast feed their babies anywhere the need arises.
It feels so natural, but in England, people will scowl and may be dial 911 if they see you breast feeding in public. I learnt that people have actually been cautioned for indecent exposure for breastfeeding in public.

I dont really know. I never breastfed, but would have felt uncomfortable doing it in public. Not sure why, it doesnt bother me to see women doing it, most women i have seen doing it are discreet and sit down quietly to do it.

The only thing that bothers me is baby feeding room in public toilets - would you serve your family tea in a toilet? I think not. So why do companies think its ok to feed babies in a toilet. That really is gross.

I dont know why some people view it as gross in public, its only a baby and a pair of boobs, nothing we havent seen, if kids wants to know whats happening, we can tell them without worrying - its natural and not dirty, its a part of life and kids need to know the facts of life at some point.

I really dont understand the fuss.

We all know that it is a natural thing for a mother to breastfeed her child but it is embarrassing, particularly for men. If they look they are accused of being a peeping tom so they are forced to avert their gaze. The woman should cover most of her breast and if possible avoid being in a public place when it is baby's feed time. My wife breastfed our three children but managed to do it without exposing herself in public.

Repressive people and ignorance. Having said that, it does require discretion on the mothers part. I mean you would not just get your breast out in the middle of Marks and Spencers would you? It is natural, but as people see it as offensive (poor people) then the mother can still nurse her child in a discreet manner to reduce this. Now if anyone says 'take your baby to the toilet to feed them' well - it is an insult to mother and child. That is wrong.

We have evolved, and now it is not a matter of life & death, so views have changed. It is no longer acceptable to whip out a boob in public, no matter what. I have found that in most places, however, it is acceptable to put a blanket over the breast-feeding-in-progress and no one is bent out of shape.

two things:
first: as a mom who breastfed, i am so glad that the answers you got were mostly pro breastfeeding in public or not. that isn't what i expected to see.
second: while most women are discreet, the handful of ladies out there that expose their giant breasts to the whole world ruin it for everyone. (i think they just want the attention-look at me what a good mom i am) I am a lady that breastfed in public but even i don't care to see the whole show

I'd be embarrassed if you whapped your baps out to scratch an itch so why would it be any different because there's a baby hanging off them.
Similarly, having sex is quite natural but that doesn't mean i want the people at the next table along from me just cracking on with no regard.

If more women breastfed in public it would become the norm and children would grow up seeing it as the norm and not think twice about it.

I breastfed my daughter and I didn't give a hoot who saw me. It's not like you see much anyway as the baby has most of it in it's mouth and the head covers the rest.

I bet that the people who see it as pornographic are MEN.

Breastfeed in public - be proud of it, let the world know that you are giving your baby the best start in life.
