When Jesus walked on water it was both literal (he was truly walking on water) and figurative (for the things which seem impossible in life, all things are possible with God!)

So perhaps it was both? :)

Jesus spoke figuratively about the mountains. Mountains are situations or problems in your life that you have to deal with. Jesus showed us how to deal with those problems by casting the mountain into the sea. Those mountains we can't cast into the sea must be climbed, but rest assured that when we get to the top Jesus will be there.

I think it was both.

Literal because it can be done (although when someone gets that close to God, they will not be interested in doing such things to show off, but will be interested in only doing his Father's will).

Figurative because the mountain represents obstacles in a persons life (both physical and spiritual) that can be dealt with through faith in Jesus.

Jesus said that if you have the faith the size of a grain of seed that you could move mountains......mountains of sin, mountains of obstacles, mountains of mockery and verbal degradation.

Both. His message was about faith. Not really about mountains. There may come a time though . . . . . .

Think about it though. If you were to say to a mountain, " Cast yourself into the sea." How many people would die?

He was ahead of his time and knew about tectonic plates and what-not. Must have been a pretty cool guy. Also, I am sure he probably said it in the figurative sense at times.
