Its perfectly normal, let them know that its better to do it in private, and explain that its ok. If your child associates touching themselves with being bad or dirty, they will have a negative self image when they are older. Up until they are about 5, its more of a comforting stage. It feels good to them but they are unaware of the more sexual aspects till later. They will always touch themselves, as long as they know that there is a time and place that is better than others. Good luck.

It would help to know if your child is a boy or girl....its a natural process. What I told my son when he would do this is...This is natural, what you are doing isn't nasty or bad, BUT it IS something that you should do in the privacy of your own room. We do not sit in the living room while watching TV and do it, etc...to this day I have yet to have another incident.

Im assuming your reffering to touching their personal areas. You didnt really mention an age, If you are talking about a small child Id suggesting spanking their hand or bottom and telling them not to do that. In an older child just tell them to do it in private.

The more attention you draw to it, so will he. Calmly walk him to his room and tell him to play in there. If you make an issue out of it he will either play with it more or he will be embarassed by it. You don't really want either. So just keep your cool and let him do it in privacy.

If you mean a little boy playing with his ****, then just tell him it's ok for him to do that, but that he must go to his own room.

It's normal to be curious. Check out the sites below:

Are you talking about them touching themselves?

IF you are, just let them, tell them to do it in private though. It's nothing you should make them feel ashamed of.
