I was 11 at the end of the seventies. People were wearing bell bottom jeans and watching Baretta or Starsky and Hutch (gotta love that Huggy Bear). Everyone was f*****g in the streets and pot parties were the norm. What do you think?

I was in my teens and twenties in the 70s, and unlike many of my peers, I do remember it well (parts of it, anyway!) There was a great sense of freedom, and of rejecting the materialism of society. There was lots of rethinking of the values and traditions we grew up with, and there was great support among our peers for "doing your own thing." We rejected the "plastic" and went in favor of the real. Handmade, very individualistic crafts of all sorts were truly appreciated. I did a couple of years of "back to the land" and lived in a very rural place on a dirt road in the mountains of West Virginia, baking bread and growing veggies. We really did believe in peace and love and fellowship, and it was easy to meet like-minded people. There were a lot of drugs, and I met lots of people through shared dope-smoking. I personally didn't get much into hallucinogens, although I did take "magic mushrooms" a couple of times, and I still remember those events as profoundly spiritual (and occasionally unsettling.) I did like the mellow fellowship of smoking pot with lots of people and laughing ourselves helpless. And the music scene was incredible!
Even though I have grown up and become responsible and raised 2 great kids since that time, I look back with lots of great memories of that time. And despite what many people say, that that era is responsible for many of the negative attitudes in American society today, I believe that most of what came from that era was positive. The awareness of ecology, the understanding that people could take a stand and make a difference in the world, the willingness to look at other ways to live your life - those are all legacies of the era.

I was three years old when the seventies ended, so for me, they were great. Food was plentiful, everyone loved me, I didn't have to do anything but play, sleep, eat and crap my pants whenever I felt like it. Seventies were awesome!

I never washed and wore a Barry Sheen t-shirt. Alternative sports were in and I drank Tartan Special. I was 4 when they ended.

Party, party, party. Lived to party, worked to party. Did not need a reason to party and anything was a reason to party. The party generation, don't you know. Could have done without disco though.
