I'm an agnostic and I respect people from all types of backgrounds, why every time I hang out and someone brings up religion do christians not respect the opinions of others and force their opinions to the forefront? If I ask them to stop they get even more passionate, it's very disrespectful to other don't you think? I'm sure someone will tell me to believe in Jesus or I'm going to hell for this one.

You're right, it is disrespectful if after the first time you've asked them to stop they continue to pursue you and try to convert you. They think this is the way to heaven and it is not. By trying to convert people by forcing their beliefs on them, they are only acting on their own selfish desires to "get into heaven," and they do not understand that they are contradicting themselves for selfish actions will only lead a soul to a selfish hell.

You believe what you want to believe (or disbelieve). Let no one tell you otherwise, only seek to learn your own truths that are pertinent to you in this life.

Brightest Blessings.

Well, some people are passionate about what they believe. Why fault them for that? At least they are truly alive!

I think that there is a difference between being passionate and being disrespectful. A fine line perhaps, but it is still there. Of course, a person who is insecure in his beliefs will always assume that a passionate person is being disrespectful, because he does not understand the other person's strength of conviction.

It is their right to express their opinion here just like everyone else. Why do atheists and agnostics ridicule other's beliefs and cram their opinions down the throats of people that they disagree with, and then complain when someone does it back? A double standard, perhaps?

Jesus told his followers to spread the truth. Peter, Paul & John told Christians to give advice to someone who was sinning in an attempt to disuade him from his evil ways. And the Jewish prophet Ezekiel stated that if you saw someone sinning and said nothing about it to him, then it is partially your fault that this person went to Hell.

The Bible never tells Christians to convert anyone; but the Bible does tell Christians to spread the truth so that people will have both sides of the story and can make up their own mind about what they want to believe.

First I'd like to apologize for those that you've met badgering you with why you should worship God and if you don't believe you'll go to hell. We are not suppose to act that way. But unfortunately some seem to take God's word and use it for self glorification. Sort of like "I know something you don't and that makes me better than you and your going to hell cause I told Jesus not to let you in"

That sounded dumb right? Well, in cases of religion beliefs or practices, we should all respect one another.

True Christians those that know the bible and understand the way Jesus was would never "shove anything down your throat" You have the freedom to believe what ever it is that you believe in. If by chance you want to give the Christian thing a try then let it be because "You" want to. Not because someone says that you should.

And besides if you looked at the way they really lived it would probably contradict allot of what they are trying to feed you.

A Christian would encourage you. And humbly share with you when you have a question or even a problem. not feed you something you don't want to eat.

Once again sorry for the way that you've been treated. Its not really like that.

LOL. Then I guess we'll hold hands in hell cause I'm right with you.

Christianity has always been a religion forced upon people through death, murder, mayhem, or brute psychological force. It's ingrained into the child from birth.

If you masturbate, have sex before marriage, take jesus' name in vain or miss church on Sunday, you're going straight to hell. Do not pass GO, do not collect $200

So you kinda have to feel sorry for them. They don't know what else to do. The fear of punishment and hell is very real to them. Most christians don't even know their history.

I was in the dollar store one day and this lady starts going off about Jesus, how great his is, and asked me to join her in praise for OUR lord and savior. I told her look honey, I don't believe in all that bullshyt. I think there is a god, no one has seen him or her and I'm surely as hell not believing the entire sins of the world have been removed because one man died on a cross thousand of years ago AND he was the son of god...please...gimme a break.

If they are persistent, be just as agressive. Tell them, haye, I don't believe in that and unless we're gong to have a civil conversation based on facts I would prefer we skip the conversation all together.

You might get a few death threats, but nothing is worse than a long, drawn out conversation with a bible thumping, "I am part of the chose ones" person. There's a rap song by Mob Deep called "Put em in their place". Do it.

There are a few passages in the New Testament that encourage believers to go out and spread the word. I'm too lazy to look them up, and they're probably epistles rather than anything Jesus actually said, but I know I've encountered them before.

In the *best* of cases, the people who are trying to share their beliefs are genuinely trying to embody Christ's love for everybody, and trying to express it by (in their eyes) rescuing you from eternal torment. If you saw someone you loved about to do something very stupid that would hurt them significantly, you'd want to stop them, right? And yes, believe it or not, there are people who can feel and express that kind of love for strangers. It's rare, but it's out there.

I'll refrain from speculating on the motives of any less-than-best cases, because that'd just be unnecessarily mean.

Because we realize that your soul is more important than your feelings and we're not going to give up because you are offended.

It's the same reason why you punish a child for behaving bad. The child will be angry at you for punishing him, but in the end, it is good for him. Should we stop disciplining children because they don't like it?
Better yet, should we let everyone out of jail because those pesky judges keep pushing the laws on criminals against their will? There is a spiritual law you're disobeying and we are the police. We send you the message that you're breaking the law because when the judge finally makes His ruling, there will be no second chances. So, we are trying to give you a get out of jail free card.

By trying to save your eternal soul, we are respecting you more than you respect yourself.

"Xtians", the basic fundie fanatic contingent (sorry I don't really think of them as true Christians) who do this on a regular basis do not have the least respect for anyone else's religion. They are arrogant and self-righteous and full of themselves because they're sure they have a direct link to God and everyone else is just treading water. It's not only annoying and disrespectful, but ignorant IMHO. I've had to put up a "no soliciting" sign on my house, which I put there not only for the door to door salesperson, but also for the religious nuts who bang on my door with their Bible in hand. Of course they don't think it applies to them lol. They use their religious tenet of "spreading the Good Word" as an excuse to be obnoxious and overbearing. Just once I wish one of them coming to my door would ask me first if I was happy with my own faith and be intelligent enough to say, okay then thank you have a good day, and move on when I say yes. But this is apparently asking too much of them to be respectful, so I end up having to be rude to get rid of them. They are a royal pain in the butt.

Christians don't try to push their ideas onto you or anyone. Christians simply share the Word of God on this site, Spirituality and Religion. It's the appropriate category, you see. What I'm confused about is why those without spirituality and religion come into this site and push their ideas onto Christians?

i guess some people dont know when to stop..a christian should just be an example if sum1 doesnt want to believe they shouldnt try and force their ideas on you thats wrong.. they should just pray for you and accept you the way u are as a friend and not try to change you....but it can be hard. example: if you knew (really believed) sum1 you cared about was heading for danger and you tried and tried to tell them and they didnt believe you, you'd try everything you could to get them to listen because they were heading for danger. And i personaly believe in Jesus..but its of course up to u right?

Now, I ask you ... why should I take the word of an individual who believes they are more knowledgeable than I ... yet cannot even spell "Christ", "pray", "heavenly", or "savior" correctly? I mean please ... this person will likely eliminate herself from the gene pool by trying to preach the word of God to a wild lion.

I don't know. I wouldn't say that its Christians only, but alot of people are strong in their belief. I can't stand the disrespectful aspect of it. If you believe fine if not that's fine too. But EVERYONE will become a true believer once the world ends. So....I guess we wait.
