I was just curious as to why drinking alcohol makes you pee more? I know that when I'm at the bar or club, I go to the restoom at least 5 times! Just wondering :)

alcohol is a diuretic which means it makes the water loose water causing you to have to pee more often. This may also cause dehydration, thats why it is important to drink a lot of water while dirnking alcohol.

Because normally you do not drink that much so since you are downing probably at least 40oz of liquid in a night you need to pee. Alcohol also dehydrates you so you pee out more water.

Because your body is trying to get rid of it. It isn't supposed to be there and your kidneys recognize that. As you continue drinking though or into the next day...you need to make sure you drink plenty of water though because otherwise you could risk becoming dehydrated. If you notice, after you finally stop peeing constantly, it usually slows down significantly. This is dehydration.

This is a very "easy" un-scientific explanation.

Similiar to coffee, it dehydrates you. The water in your system is being exerted from your body plus the actual contents of the alcohol, which makes you pee more.

Its a diuretic, like Caffiene or Ecstacy (but is totally unrelated in psycological or psysiological action to ethanol.) It changes your bodies water balance. More specifically it inhibits vasopressin secretion. Vasopressin is a hormone implicated in your bodies water balance. The less of it, the more water you release. Ethanol reduces the amount of vasopressin in your blood, and tricks your body into dumping water causing dehydration.

EDIT: Correction Esctasy actually promotes vasopressin production actually increasing the amount of water retained.

because your liver is still working well enough that it speeds up the process of getting it out of your system ( it senses the harmful substance that is alcohol) Once you drink more and more it will slow down and you will not have to pee as much

Because you drink a lot of it.....say you have 5 beers, that's like sitting at home and drinking 5 cans of soda in like an hour or two!!

It actually dehydrates your body - you piss out more than you drink - that's why there's terrible headache in the morning. If you're out drinking, drink full glass of water before you go to bed to rehydrate.
P.S. by the way, I'm with Southpaw :)))

Alcohol blocks the release of Anti-diuretic horomone and thus, it makes you have to pee more.

Nothing good in alcohol so your body doesn't need it so you pee it all out
