Old habits do die hard, don't they? "Bless You," or, "God Bless You," is a several hundred year old saying that originated from the belief that when a person sneezed, they were expelling their soul from their body, and the person saying "God bless you," said thus in hopes that God would bless the spirit to return to the body before a dark entity, demon, etc. could enter it and take possession of the person.

Now, I am wiccan, but when someone says, "God bless you" to me, I still say thank you. Common courtesy. Although with the advent of athiesm, this phrase has been shortened to simply "bless you." Slowly, but slowly do we change our ways.

God Bless You has a pagan origin because pagans believed that when a person sneezes, a bad spirit travels to your nose. God condemned paganism, so it is inapproperiate for a true christian to say bless you when someone sneezes.

I never say even just "Bless you". Not for religious purposes so much as because people used to believe your soul was trying to leave your body. Now that we know that's not why we sneeze saying anything afterward is jus not necessary....progress....

I say bless you to be nice because I feel bad for them. I guess I just made up my own reason for saying it. I do that a lot~ I guess you have to make your own meaning in life to make it your own life!
