The rubber push buttons have carbon impregnated on the part that touches the circuit board. After may pressings and especially if any fluids have found there way into the remote, the carbon wears off and pressing harder and wiggling the button helps those troubled operation work again. If you can take it apart and clean it, this will sometimes help (if it's go foreign material inside) and another trick we use to restore the operation is to use silicone glue and attach little circles cut out of the metalized paper from a cigarette pack. This will act like the carbonized touch pads have been replaced.

Because we can!!! Take it apart and clean inside on the circuit board and the magnets on the keypad and you will be back to soft touch control. Use a lint free cloth or foam tipped swabs and a cleaner degreaser available from The Source for best results.

Because eventually, you press so hard your hand starts to shake, causing the signal to "scan" over the receiver, a bit like the barcode readers at supermarket checkouts. This can help the receiver to detect the weak signal.

This is an very good question and has made me realise that I am in fact being very stupid when I do this.

Although, weirdly, it does seem to work. But technically it shouldn't because as long as contact is made, electricity should flow. It shouldn't matter how forceful the contact is. Hmmmm.
