I have good luck with abreva.
However, you can go to the doctor and get a steroid for it as well.

Okay, so I have a cold sore too, right this very second....and in the past I hadn't used anything. But this time, I tried Lysine+. So far, it's doing a pretty good job of reducing it and fast-tracking it towards full recovery, esp if you consider that i didn't start applying it until the second/third day of feeling it coming on.

Some people probably will not find Lycine as effective as other means, say Abrevo...but it's worth a shot.

I know this sounds nuts but here it is. First of all don't lick it whatever you do. Second get a q-tip and apply nail polish remover to the infected area about 7 times a day.(stings like hell but it works.) Third, apply ice to it for about 20 minutes following each application of nail polish remover. When the sore dries out, pick off the scab(only if it's not sensitive and it comes off easily) After the scab is picked off then you can easily cover with foundation or cover up. Abreva and other over the counter remedies will not work for everyone. Good luck, I hate those dang things.
