I just started giving my daughter some water in her bottle. Sort of went slow instead of just abruptly stopping. Within a short amount of time she gave it up entirely as far as keeping it in her mouth, she then was just content holding an empty bottle in her hand until she fell asleep. I was not REALLY strict about weaning any of my children, they were total cup users by two. They moved at their own pace, and I gave them time to do that. Good luck to you, and the best advice I was ever given was be patient.

What you should do is just take the bottle, yes your child will cry for a while but you cannot give in. Being 1 year old and still on the bottle will call some health issues. Since the child is still growing then that can hurt the form that is taken by the mouth and teeth. Then it can cause you to pay for braces later in the child's later years. It's alot easrier then you may think to take the child off the bottle. You can also find a creative way to show the child that you are proud of him/her cause he/her gave up the bottle at bedtime.

I took all of my children off the bottle at 1 year old also so don't listen to all the people who are saying 1 year old is too soon to take the baby off the bottle. I just threw away all the bottles so that I wouldn't even be tempted to give them one. You can use a sippy cup for a while to transition from having something to drink when they go to sleep to having nothing. For the first few days he/she will be a little fussy until they get used to it but it is worth it. You don't want to have a 2 or 3 or 4 year old still on a bottle. The older they get the harder it is to get them off of the bottle. Good luck.

My little boy is 1 next month and we've been using a combination of the sippie cup (w/ milk) as well as a filling meal right before bedtime. This is usually something like applesauce with cereal. Its been about 1 week since he had a bottle now and he's still going to be on time and sleeping all night.

Good luck!

PACK UP THE BOTTLES AND GET THEM OUT THE DOOR, AND YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO LOOK BACK. REPLACE THE BOTTLE WITH A SIPPY CUP OF WATER, AND MAKE SURE HE/SHE IS FULL BEFORE BEDTIME. EITHER THE SIPPY CUP WILL WORK OR YOUR BABY WILL CRY HISSELF TO SLEEP, AND THAT WON'T HURT ANY. IT MIGHT HELP TO GET LULLABY MUSIC TO PLAY FOR HIM. HE WILL PROBABLY ONLY REMEMBER THE BOTTLE FOR A FEW NIGHTS, NO MORE THAN THREE, AND THEN HE WILL FORGET ALL ABOUT IT. MY SON IS NOW 16 MONTHS OLD AND THIS IS HOW I GOT HIM OFF THE BOTTLE WHEN HE WAS 14 MONTHS OLD. HE DOESN'T EVEN REMEMBER WHAT A BABA IS!

Geez, did the stupids come out in force to answer your question?

One sounds a little young to be weaning your little one. I think 18 months would be a better time to do it. But, if you think your little one is ready, don't make a big deal of it at bedtime. Saying, "...ok, no more bottle!" will only result in disaster. Whatever the case, enjoy your baby. They don't stay little very long. Before you know it, it's their first day at kindergarten.

Start by giving him less in the bottle - try to water down the formula a little more, so it won't taste as good. I assume he's using a sippy cup during the day? Try giving him a good drink of water from his sippy cup right before bed - he won't be as thirsty during the night! God bless!

Just stop offering it. Only offer the milk in a sippy cup. He'll get the point when teh bottles dont come out EVER anymore.
