If you have 1 cat that is inside, never goes outside. Do you have to get the 1 year check with all the shots? I say yes, but my sister herd different.

Well if you ask a vet they will say yes because of course they are looking after there own line of business. If you ask a vet who is also a good friend...well you get a completely different story. What I have been told is that my cats got a clean bill of health when they were kittens. They have no "medical" condition that would warrant a yearly check up. As for the shots you really only need to get them done every 2 or 3 years because they are not subjected to the outside life. But, if you are in contact with outside animals and then go in and touch your cats you can bring in viruses and other things like fleas etc. You know your cats better than the vet so you should be able to tell if your cats are feeling under the weather or not. If they are then you should know to take them to the vet....otherwise if they are young and behaving the same then I would only suggest ever few years. As the cat ages or you notice lumps and bumps then I would suggest yearly check ups as a preventative measure.

Where I live a cat must be vaccinated against rabies i don't care if it goes out side or not. You should check the law.
I think it is a good idea to get the shots and exam for my cat anyway because
she is sneaky and tries to get out and succeeds sometimes.
cats are stoic. It is in their nature to hide sickness because if you are weak, some larger predator will come along at eat you. A vet check up assures me that nothing is happening
Come on, how much is unconditional love worth?

I have always done annual vet checks for my six cats. I have not given any shots for the last seven years (my cats are confined to my property).

Jean Hovfe, DVM runs a website at: www.littlebigcat.com. She does a monthly newsletter and has written many articles. You can go into the files and pull up what she has to say about vaccinations. Holistic and homeopathic veterinarians have taken a stand against indiscriminate yearly vaccinations for animals.

So I do feel the vet trip is important. You have the right to decline vaccinations if you choose to do so, or at least choose the ones that are appropriate for your cat's lifestyle (indoor, outdoor, etc.)

Many people object to this expense as unnecessary. I feel they do not realize how valuable the "feely" exam or blood work may be for their cats.

Well.. you both are right.. Well. sort of.... I would say yes, get the shots BECAUSE.. many of the diseases are airborne and there might be cats next to you and some of those diseases are horrible.. I have an inside cat and I felt it SAFE to go ahead and get the shots.. They don't have to have RABIES of course UNLESS you take the cat to a KENNEL for boarding and many kennels(not all) require that the cat have a Rabies IN CASE that the cat bites a kennel attendant.

Yes, just in case. My cats don't go outside. In fact, they're pretty good about not even trying to run for the door. But we do have wild critters and strays in the area, and for a while there was one cat who would try to attack ours through the screen.

yeah. my cat became an indoor cat a year ago for safety reasons since we moved.. they have to get shots so their health doesn't go bad.. they can escape from your house accidently so by getting the shots they aren't harmed and they are protected

If her friends own cats & visit, she'll still need 2 get her cat its shots.
Cat viruses/bugs/illnesses, can B carried by humans.
If she loves her cat that much, a jab should B a priority.
