We're going camping somewhere in Northern California for 4 days.I've cut her hair to about an inch long and she uses Frontline Plus. She's a small dog too. Will I be able to see the ticks better if her hair is short? Should I bring her shampoo and other grooming supplies with me?

If you have her on Frontline, she won't get Ticks. Take her with you, enjoy the trip, don't worry.
It's good that you clipped her short to keep all the nature out of her coat. Take a brush to get any dirt off her before she goes into the tent, but other than that, she doesn't need anything.
Have Fun.

Camping with the pup can be a great experience. Bring the leash, food, bowls, plenty of water, a good brush and dog towels and have a blast. I would not board a dog if I didn't have to. If you can take care of your dog in the car and get her there and back safely then go for it. Your trimmed her hair so that will make it easier to spot ticks. Check her each day and remove any ticks you find. Bring a brush as it will help keeping her leaf and twig free and help with finding any ticks. I don't know how dense the woods are where you are going but Northern Cali shouldn't be too bad. unlike where I am in Tennessee. The woods in my backyard have tons of ticks! My dog is getting better at not running off into the woods since I have utlized positive reinforcement training via chicken strips.

Bring her along! Dogs love camping.

Try camping at a high elevation where you'll see fewer ticks. The Frontline Plus does kill ticks, but that's only after they've bitten your dog. So you'll want to check her at least twice a day all over her body for ticks before they attach (they usually wander around in the fur for an hour or so before attaching). Don't forget to check between her toes! You will be able to see the ticks better with her new short haircut.

Bring a brush, if that will help you search for ticks. Also, bring a pair of tweezers to pull out a tick if you do find one on her or yourself. Grab the tick with the tweezers and pull straight out, don't twist. Have some rubbing alcohol on hand (the wipes work best for hiking) to clean the bitten area, the tweezers, and your hands.

If you're headed to the mountains, there are a lot of mosquitos out in the Sierras right now, so don't forget your mosquito repellent. DEET is dangerous to dogs who might potentially lick it, so try a more natural eucalyptus or tea tree oil repellent for your dog and keep her from licking your repellent with DEET.

The frontline should work. I would bring her and bring along a brush or comb. I actually I found that using a serrated knife like a comb (very carefully) can help remove ticks and burrs etc...

I have taken my dogs camping with my family and didn't have a problem and your dog will have fun. Just make sure you bathe her before you leave and take her brush so that you can keep her coat shinny and healthy that will also help you keep things out of the tent as well as keep her coat from getting knots. The brush will let you notice if she has any hitchhikers

bring some alcohol, cotton 'q-tips' and tweezers for tick removal, and keep a close watch. How about other considerataions? Other animals? humans? will she be loose and a nuisance to other people? in danger from other animals? does it bark a lot? does it go after other small animals like squirrels?

You probably would be better off boarding her- but if you're bringing her, then bring her grooming supplies too. That will help keep her fur from becoming a mess.

Have fun!
