I hear that there is an overweight "gene" so to speak. While that may or may not be, a water balloon doesn't get bigger because of its genetic makeup. It gets bigger because you put more in it. What do you all think?

Everything has genetic pre-disposition. But it is mostly lifestyle which runs in families. Two fat parents who stuff thier face full of cake and never exercise will cause you to want to be that way if you love them. I you have 2 healthy eating thin parents who exercise, same thing.

Parents who hate blacks and in Ku Kluw Klan tend to have children that join the klan. Muslim parents have kids that are Muslim as adults. Same with Christians and most certainly with Hindus from India. So that means it is genetic, right? Live a bad lifestyle and you will get what you are pre-disposed to get like cancer, Lupus or obesity.

Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic index and load. It is mostly NOT your fault, if you need to lose weight. The way we have been taught to eat is responsible for making obesity the number one health problem in the world (according to Atlantic Monthly magazine) replacing hunger and infectious disease. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin. Not a diet, but diet lifestyle.

Find out about fastest way to lose weight, gradual ways to lose weight, most effective exercise, good and bad carbs and anti-water. Lose bodyfat and retained water which also makes you a lot fatter (bloated). Most important-- make sure to read the last "fat loss tip", first before anything else, to see the number one food that causes Americans to be fat.

I think youre partly right. Its not always genetic. I would say that in most cases, there are certain learned habits, growing up- like not exercising and eating a certain way.

There are a great deal of cases, though, where a person cant help gaining weight. Thyroid problems ARE genetic, and if the person has an undeactive thyroid, they are more likely to gain weight, regardless of how much or little they eat, and exercise.

I do think genetics have alot to do with it, but doesn't "doom you"
to being over weight. It has lot to do with metabolism which you inherit from your parents. Also the thyroid can have alot to do with it. And alot of it does have to do with lifestyle. But because genetics have alot to do with it, some have to work harder than others. I have a high metabolism which i inherited from my father, so its easier for me not to gain weight. My wife on the other hand has a much slower metabolism and her all her family have to work real hard to keep the weight off.

Obesity does run in families, sometimes it is genetic but if you eat right and exercise you wont get overweight.

Yes. I'm adopted and grew up in a family of skinny people. I'm very overweight. I finally met my birth parents and they are both overweight too.

specific and no, you have a genetic shape, that needs to stick to a collection of plans, yet you could substitute the plans. Your mom sounds very jealous, she's growing to be previous, and does not want you to be happy, ( possibly does not understand she's doing it, in basic terms human nature stuff). as long as your dropping weight the astounding way, this is working the muscle, the load won't come again. maybe after awhile of seeing you healthful, she'll substitute her techniques, and get extra healthy with you, yet do not enable her opinion sway you.

The only thing genetically determined is the number of fat cells you are born with. With diet and exercise the fat cells shrink but with weight gain the fat cells also multiply making it harder to keep weight off because after multiplying they can't dissappear, only shrink with weight loss but the cells are always ready to cling on to any excess fat from excess calories not being burned.

I don't believe so. People say it is, because your metabolism is inherited from your parents which could be true. But you are not stuck with it. Your metabolism can be trained so that your body will burn fat faster.
