Current DVD's contain about 4.5 gigabytes of data. There are new formats being developed that will contain 10 times that amount.
If you are thinking of copying a movie DVD that you purchased don't forget that it is illegal.

After you copy the DVD, use Windows Explorer to locate the file. On the toolbar, click View, then select Details.
If you want to know how much space is left on your hard drive, open My Computer. R-click on C and select Properties.

a standard dvd is 9 gigs, but if you compress the file, as in using a burning program, it can be brought down to 4 gigs.

DVDs are double layered usually. So 9.4 GBs and lower, unless you compress it.
