If you want a healthy one without the nervous problems poorly bred chihuahuas are prone to, you should save your money for a few months more and spend the money on a well bred puppy from a reputable breeder. Cheap puppies mean the 'breeder' didn't spend much on the Moms prenatal care, or on the puppies themselves, and certainly didn't spend any money on a high quality father for the litter, or spend any money on testing to make sure the parents or puppies are free of genetic defect.
For some things you shouldn't go cheap; pedigreed pets are one of them. They're family members you'll have for a long time; you want the best quality family member you can afford.

Chihuahuas are extremely popular now, even though they can be nasty, bark constantly and are very hard to housebreak. You will never find someone selling a good one cheap. Expect to pay at LEAST $1000.
Check your local humane societies and breed club rescue organizations for the lowest initial cost in getting a dog. But, beware - you may be adopting someone else's problems. How cheap is a dog that chews up all your stuff or ruins your rugs by peeing on them?
Find a good breeder referral by going to www.akc.org or talking to people at dog shows. This is a breed that can have hip and aggression problems - you should get the best one you can!
http://www.akc.org/breeds/chihuahua/index.cfm
http://www.akc.org/breederinfo/breeder_search.cfm
You can also find info about the breed clubs on the akc site - they probably have a rescue group where you can get an older dog for less money.
http://www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm
The best breeders will be members of their breed club, promoting healthy dogs with great temperaments. They should ask you a bunch of questions to make sure their puppy will be getting a good home. If all a "breeder" seems to care about is whether your check will clear, you can be sure he won't care a week later when the pup is dying from distemper or parvo and you want your money back.
Whatever you do, DON'T go to a pet shop, a flea market or buy one sight-unseen off the Internet!!!! You'll pay top dollar for what is usually a poor quality puppy mill dog that is often sick and may have falsified registration papers. And you'll be supporting one of the cruelest industries in the country. http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=cruelty_puppymills
Quality dogs are expensive to buy and raise. The breeder has to pay for a stud fee, health exams and tests for canine VD. Because of their big heads, Chihuahua pups often have to be delivered by an expensive c-section. The pups then need food and shots and worming and lots of care for eight weeks. One of my breeder friends once calculated that she made less than $1.85 per hour after expenses!
All dogs cost money to take care of. Even “free” dogs aren’t free. Puppy shots are another $200, then $100 a year. Annual Heartworm test and preventative medication $100. Professional trainer $600 and up. Going on vacation? Boarding kennel $40/day. Spaying? $250. If you can't afford to pay for a good dog, maybe you can't afford to maintain one either?
Dogs are terrific companions but they require training and discipline and exercise. A dog the size of a Chihuahua has to go out every four to six hours - the smaller the dog, the more often they have to go out. Chihuahuas can live 14 - 16 years. Paying $1200 for a pup means that the dog cost you less than $100 a year - is that really too much???
If you can't afford a dog, get a rabbit or a guinea pig - they're friendly, easy to keep, live in a cage, and don't have to be walked or trained.

'Teacup' or 'mini' chihuahuas will NEVER come from a responsible breeder. They are produced by breeding the runt from each litter again and again, many being severely inbred or bred to death. They are bred for size, not health. For this reason they usually come with many underlying medical problems. Please do not support a backyard breeder or puppy mill.
Also, do not purchase a pet based on price. Responsible breeders, although few and far between, will charge reasonabley. Although the prices may seem high for you, you are paying for a puppy with parents that have been health screened to ensure that they have no genetic health problems (although there is always a risk). They will never advertise 'teacup' or 'mini' chihuahuas, nor will they post adverts on websites or in newspapers.
If you want a cheap puppy because you are short of cash, please ask yourself HOW you are going to pay for the vet bills that are almost certain to arise from a poorly bred puppy.
Also, please don't think that expensive means good quality. Some petshops and puppy millers charge OUTRAGEOUS prices for mutts (so called 'designer dog breeds') or fad dogs, such as teacups, yet they are bred for quantity not quality and are unlikely to be healthy. Many puppy milled dogs don't make it past their 4th birthday.
Don't make the mistake that many others do; either go to a shelter or save up for a puppy from a responsible breeder. Either way, you need a vet fund and you should expect to be screened by either of these. They want to make sure that their pup goes to a good home.

Well, let's say you find a poor quality puppy for that price - it is likely to have genetic issues, personality/temperament problems, health problems, etc.
More importantly, I'll give you an example of what we just spent on our puppy, we got her 5 days ago. She is from a shelter, and cost $300 (to cover shelter costs, food, spaying, vet checkups, etc). Then we spent about $350 on supplies (really!) - food, toys, dishes, leashes, the list goes on and on. Then we spent $115 on her puppy training classes. Next week we are spending probably $150 or something for her initial vet appointment & booster shots. Oh and $20 for her dog license.
So assuming you will be spaying/neuturing your pup, and preparing him/her properly for her new home, you are looking at about $935 in extra cost, plus the price of the dog. Are you sure you are prepared for that?

first of all chihuahua's are the same type, some people call them mimi or teacup when they are on the smaller end of the size scale so they can charge more.
chihuahua's do cost a lot of money so i dout you will find one cheap. but try looking on the AKC for a breeder list or find a chihuahua rescue.
but if your not willing to pay the advrege price then i sujest you dont get one.

Go to Puppyfind.com. They have thousands of dogs available in many states, and often they are available in that price range. I bought a cockapoo from them that cost $400, though it was another $200 to have him shipped to me, as I'm in NJ. There were others in the $100-$200 range as well, but I picked a more expensive one because he was cuter. The breeders near me were charging over $1,000 for a cockapoo puppy.
