I have a 3 month old chi-pin. I've discovered this past week that walks are not for her. She either is running ahead, stopping to roll over, stopping to pick up debris, or just lays down and won't move. Will playing inside be enough exercise for her or should I just keep at the walking thing even though I spend more time "dragging" than walking.

I don't use a collar, but a harness due to her small size.

She needs long daily walks to burn off that hyper energy and you need to start training her now or she'll be running your house for the rest of her life.

Mastering the walk is vital in dog training. Go ahead and rent or buy some of the DOG Whisperer DVD's. You will get a great understanding of why.

she is still a puppy....she needs to learn to be walked...pull her leash the opposite way when she does something wrong.....if she is going too fast, pull back and she will slow down when her collar is too tight...all dogs like to roll around outside, pick up trash, etc.it is completely normal.try taking her at least once a day to get her trained and used to it.

That's what puppies do on walks! If she gets tired, go for shorter walks but don't expect her to not run around and sniff/play with everything she finds!

if you have a big rnough backyard for your pup to run and play in that is probably fine if not and you have a tread mill put it on a slow pace and tie your dog to it and that is how you can exercise her. if she doesnt walk on that then go see a vet.

She enjoys her walks and likes to discover and have adventure instead of just continous walking. have patience. Let her sniff and play.

She is getting enough on her own-but play with her when she feels the mood strike. It will be good for both of you and you will bond more strongly.
