You will need something stronger to get rid of the fleas. Ask at a local pet store or vet about what product is best for your situation. There are some really good ones out there.

As for flea bites, try soaking in a warm tub with Aveeno Oatmeal Bath Powder added to the water. If you don't have that, try some Epsom salts or good old baking soda. Any of these will relieve the itch. After you dry off, apply Caladryl lotion (it has calamine and Benadryl in it). If the itch is very severe, you might want to take Benadryl in the pill form. It will make you drowsy but it beats being itchy.

An easy non toxic solution is to place a pie pan with water and dish soap on the carpet. Direct a desklamp at the water so the light reflects off the water. This attracts the fleas and the soapy water traps them.

my dog got fleas from the backyard when our neighbors moved in with 2 huge labs that stay in their backyard all day and night.....i vacuumed the carpet with flea carpet powder, bathed him in anti-flea and tick shampoo, put a flea collar on him, treated him with the flea treatment that goes down the middle of his back, and stopped letting him hang out by my neighbors fence when he goes outside.....seems to be working, no more flea problems here.....I also try and bathe him with anti-flea shampoo every sunday....he likes baths

You need frontline plus or something similar. That'll do the trick.
