You have to get a license, and to get that you have to go to a training school. The one in my area takes somewhere around 8 months to complete training, and then you can work cutting hair or doing manicures or waxing. If you want to open your own salon you will have to rent a place, have it set up then inspected by a health inspector, and receive a license to open for customers.

You have to go to school, most run like a school year Sept-June-you need a certain amount of hours to get a license. While you are going to school, I would recommend getting a job as a shampoo girl at a hair salon, you don't make much but you have to start at the bottom in the hair business plus you will get loads of experience if you pick the right salon. Look for someone will to help you.
Most hairdressers work in a salon.salons before they start their own business They need to build a client list.
It's a hard business...good luck

You need to go to a cosmetology program and once you have a license you should try to work with someone who can teach about running a salon.
