that i can become an officer rather than an e4? i have been told that once you are in that it is hard as hell to become an officer. all i need to do is take some stupid writing class for 5 weeks and 1 night a week. I owe the schools 48000 and the over payment is like 5000 dollars and coming by with an extra 5000 dollars with a 4 month old is hard enough. what do you think i can do please explain in details with your thoughts opinions and so forth. i am expected to sign up next week. I am joining the army for the family benifits and all, but most importantly the experience and everything.

You will have to complete your bachelor's degree before you can be accepted into a commissioning program. However, you can apply for OCS once you're on active duty as an enlisted person. It'll be a while - once you finish basic and AIT, and you get to your duty station, you'll need to learn your job. Once your NCOs see you're doing a good job, they'll talk to you about doing some school. At that point, there's all kinds of tuition assitance and what-not to help you pay for that last class. After that, you can start asking about OCS.

Realize, however, that you won't necessarily get to choose your branch as an officer, and they always need more folks in combat arms. You'll submit a list of your preferences, and when you're about half-way through OCS, they'll tell you where they're assigning you. It's based on the needs of the Army - if a billet for a 2LT comm officer comes up while you're there, then you could get slotted for that. But at OCS, I'd expect to be branched into infantry, field artillery, or air defense artillery (ADA), and then you're looking at leading men into combat in Iraq. Don't get into this just for the money - realize the responsibility you'll be taking on. Not just your life - the lives of the men in your platoon.

If you don't have a degree then i don't see you becoming an officer.
your recuiter will be able to help you with all of this more than any of us, b/c frankly, your story is very scattered and so hard to follow that it would take a while to sort it all out and get to the point.

that writing class may not be a bad idea.

You could through ROTC but I dont think you have the time. I would contact a recruiting station, or your campus ROTC.
