I am considering using this technique to cover up some old wallpaper and was wondering if there was a particular weight of tissue paper that should be used? Also, the color I am considering is a pale green and want to do a darker green glaze over it. I am not sure how to start this project.

My wife is a professional Faux Painter. She has used serval techniques to cover old wallpaper. She has used the technique you mention to create a 'moroccan leather' look. View her website and the contact her... she may be able to provide some insite and assistance. If your close... she might even be able to do the work for you!

We are located in Spring Texas which is north of Houston.

The thing about tissue paper is it will show whatever is behind it... if the old wallpaper has a pattern you will be able to see it.. So you may need to -prime the wall..which if there is any kind of stain is a good idea -Paint it with an inexpensive paint. I have done this several times, and attach the tissue while my "base" is still wet. and use a paint brush with a little paint on it to attach the crinkled paper without smoothing it out! You will need to let it dry fully before you can paint over the tissue.. It will smooth out and loose the texture if you do it too soon...usually 2 days is good! So if you use the same color paint as the tissue paper i am sure that you could do a darker glaze over it just fine! Any questions feel free to contact me!!

I did our bedroom with a darker rich blue over the light color BIG mistake.......Trust me do the Dark green Glaze and then the light Glaze over it the room will look way too dark if you do the darker glaze on top....but I think pale green over dark green will look GREAT!!!!!!!

I helped a friend try something like this, we used cloth - old t shirts. it was a technique called 'ragging off'. i dont know if I would use paper as it would absorb a lot of the glaze and tear or get too mushy to use.
