No. You would have to be a US citizen.

Those who said you didn't are incorrect. I served nine years, and met foreigners serving in our military. And we do very much need chaplains.

Contact your US consulate or embassy. You'll have to fill out the paperwork for work visa, green card, as well as apply for the branch of your choice. There is a severe shortage of Catholic chaplains.

Aida Marie wrote: "Why in Gods name would a Filipino priest ,I presume Roman Catholic?, whose main deity ,JESUS was always for PEACE, would want to into an armed zone? Unless is to give the last rites? " The answer is that soldiers, marines, sailors, and airmen need to be saved just as much as any civilians. The military will not disappear, no matter how much wishful thinking the pacifists and anti-military draw forth. However, a priest just might help a soldier or sailor come to terms with violence and war.
A good chaplain might even help that soldier realize he must have the courage to oppose war and object according to his conscience.
God bless you, Padrino. Find God's will and realize it.

I think your age maybe a questionable reason but the US military ALWAYS accepts foreigners into their Army, Marines and perhaps Navy. The others are harder to join. I know because my community is outside the US but has 150 years tradition of young unemployed orphans and daughters who run off to join and there is no problems with green cards or acceptance other than high school credentials.

Ok first off, yes you could be a chaplain, as long as you are willing to become a citizen. I have a friend who is a chaplain in the army and he is from romania. From what i can tell you still qualify.

as things stand now, No. First requirement is to be a US Citizen. Second requirement is your Denomination must approve you becoming a Military Chaplain. Third requirement is that you must meet all other requirements for Military Service.

Why in Gods name would a Filipino priest ,I presume Roman Catholic?, whose main deity ,JESUS was always for PEACE, would want to into an armed zone? Unless is to give the last rites? Of course this answer is coming from a regular civilian , maybe the military has a different one.

your age may be a factor but you may be able to work some thing out (recruters usualy can) officers must have US citizenship however you may be able to serve as a gaurdsman then if you have a 4 year theiology degree or 90 credit hours you would qualify plus your time in service counts toward citizenship! check out www.GoArmy.com

Also a great deal of US soliders are NOT US citizens.

Well, perhaps if you immigrate...they take immigrant aliens in the service. But at 47 it is doubtfull unless the Army has a shortage of chaplains..

Sorry you can't my friend but not because your not a US citizen. The states are now taken in new citizens if they are willing to serve in the forces. The thing that will stop you is your age. The max age is now 41 years of age.
