I asked a question yesterday regarding the anger and hurtful things I see written by those among the religious community and I was torn to pieces. It was shocking!!!
I honestly wanted to know an answer to a question and I was attacked. So, I believe this is a place for debate.
It's sad really, when I read some of these things that are tossed back and forth it makes me want to stay as far away from religion as I can. I'm sure that's happened more than once to someone considering Christianity. If they read some of the banter they are sure to run....sad.

Both. Sometimes, like in religion there can be no definitive solid provable answer so debate is where knowledge is gained. You take in everything everyone has to offer and keep what works for you. Debate in itself is a way of obtaining knowledge.

I don't know about everyone else, but I find great joy in reading what others have to say and in giving my own answers to spiritual questions. I also think this is a good opportunity to share your love of Christ with someone. Maybe something I say here will give someone encouragement to read the bible, search their hearts for the answers they seek. I think it gives christians a great opportunity to be a light to someone. This site is very knowledgeable even though some of the remarks are uncalled for. I don't believe we can ever have enough knowledge and I don't do debates. God Bless You.

Are you interested in obtaining some non-christian knowledge, or do you just want to obtain and give christian knowledge. Do you disparage the opinions you consider made up philosophies by people that think they are great philosophers?
I think it is both debate and knowledge.

I am interested in obtaining knowledge, and on the rare occasion entertaining myself. I find it interesting that one of the questions I asked yesterday (which I clearly stated was just a stupid question I thought was funny) was met with as much consternation as one of the "Jesus was a homosexual" questions. Most as it seems are only interested in furthering their own agenda, and while I will not be so arrogant as to say I don't have one, I try to focus on things I really want to know. Good question.

I am interested in debate, and also knowledge about other religions and spiritual paths that I don't know much about. Being Pagan I experience a lot of misunderstanding towards me and my spiritual practices and I think it's important to take steps towards educating myself about others' religions so that others will hopefully not go through the same thing -- and if they do I can at least intelligently defend them and their choices.

I think it is both. Sometimes you can learn a lot through debates. As long as you remember that nothing here is personal and you focus on what feels good to you then your experience should be pleasant.

Some people ask honets questions looking for knowledge, but many seem to ask a question just to make a point (I.E.: that they are smart, and anyone who believes different than them is stupid).

This site seems to be "all things to all people". For some, it is knowledge, for others a vehicle to evangelize, for others a means to bash others beliefs. You just have to have patience and endurance and you will find what you seek....eventually.
