I think that when someone finds a cell phone, he or she is morally required to do more than you have to find the rightful owner. check the phone's contact list, and if there is a listing for "home" or "mom" or "dad" call those numbers (or any number on the contact list) to try to track down the owner. Also, call the cell phone company (the name of the company should on the little screen, or should appear on that screen when the phone is turned on.) The cell phone company will be able to trace the owner. If you really can't find the owner after taking these steps, it's not right to use the phone under its current service plan because you are in effect stealing minutes from the owner of the phone or from the cell phone company. If you decide to keep the phone, I think you should sign up for service under your own name and pay for the service yourself.

It's just a moral question now. If you're still dedicated to doing the right thing, I'd still look in the phone's contacts and see if I found an entry for like "Mom" or "Dad" or even "Home." I'd try contacting calling one of those numbers and try and have them identify the phone to verify ownership. If not, or if you're not ethically concerned about finding the right owner, might as well keep it.

NO... First of all the service was probable canceled as soon as the person found out it was missing. Second why don't you try calling some of the numbers in the phone to see if you can find who it belongs to?

Consider how you would feel if you had been the person who lost it I am surprised and saddened by the number of people who automatically assume the right to keep it, the phone belongs to someone and it may be a lifeline for them, try to locate the owner or turn it into the police dept, if no one claims it then its yours.

Get the phone number from the information menu then go to the "recent calls" menu and call someone on there to ask who the phone belongs to. Usually phones have a lot of information on them that people would not want to lose. Put yourself in the owner's place. Would you want someone to keep your phone?

The wrong thing to do is keep it. Someone is going to be looking for it and it's best to give it back. Try calling someone on the phones contact list and explain to them why you have it. Or you could turn it in to a police station or something.

See if there is a home number in the phone if not look for contacts and return it. You would want someone to return yours if it got lost be a good Samaritan!

No. I would look under the phonebook and call one of the numbers and explain to them that I found their a phone that may belong to someone they know... get a number for the person who the phone belongs to and get it back to them.

Be honest. Call the cell phone company and find out who lost it so that it can be returned to the rightful owner.

Don't take it and claim it as yours! Wait and see if you receive a call on it, answer it and it may be the person who lost it or someone who knows the person. Otherwise, call the phone company I guess... They could possibly tell you who it belongs to.
