NDE is a neurological reaction of the brain that occurs when a person's body is under extreme stress due to a life-threatening event such as surgery, accident, starvation, etc. The purpose is to keep the brain alive as long as possible even though the rest of the body might be dying, since the brain is the seat of our personality. It is not a supernatural experience and is not evidence of an afterlife. It is simply a survival neurological reaction to a near-death situation, and is similarly to dreaming, another neurological function of the brain when it is asleep.

This might be the case, but there is emprical evidence of actual extra-somatic experiences during NDEs, confirmable by the discarnate consciousness' perception of occurrences which could not otherwise be known by it (observation of medical instruments on another side of the room, the activities of family members elsewhere, etc.). You should survey the relevant scientific literature before reaching a conclusion. The text I cite below has extensive references to solid empirical research.

there are many theories to this but it doesn't explain why most people during an NDE experience almost the same thing .. or as someone else mentioned they can see what is happening around them and can describe things that are totally out of their view...
then we have the cases of children with no religious concept describing what we can only say is a religious or spiritual experience .. for a better understanding of NDEs read some books on the subject by Dr Raymond Moody .. its fascinating stuff
