I like glitz & glimmer. But I try to curtail that urge.
I have a 2ct rnd solitaire set in yellow gold.

Before I got engaged my dream ring was about a 3 carat lucida-cut ring from Tiffany's (it's not that I am THAT greedy - I just have reeeeally fat fingers which I felt made the stones look smaller than they really are!)
But my husband and I, before we were engaged, used to go into jewelry stores and try stuff on just so he had a really good idea of what I liked, and we went into Cartier one day and just the second I slipped this ring on we both knew. It was the weirdest thing - I almost started crying right there! The reason it was so weird is, I had told him that I DEFINITELY didn't want a solitaire brilliant cut ring. But in the end that's what I have and it is the most perfect engagement ring I could have imagined!

The one I have on: it has more sentimental value than anything that can be bought. My husband inherited my rings from his grandmother who passed away about 10 years ago. They're over 70 years old. The engagement ring has 16 diamonds (all are very small- the whole ring is about 1 carat). 2 raised in the middle with 3 on each end in a triangular shape, 4 on each side. White gold.

Mine is a 1 carat princess cut oblong emerald surrounded by diamonds with diamonds continuing around the ring itself, which is white gold. My wedding ring was made to fit around it and is also in white gold with diamonds in it. I recently had my eternity ring made for having my daughter. It is a mirror image of my wedding ring but instead has alternating diamonds and emeralds.
I do feel guilty sometimes because I know there are millions of people out there who do not even know where their next meal is coming from, but I really believe that my ring is something I'll wear for the rest of my life and then pass onto my daughter.

The one I got from the man that I love and am going to spend the rest of my life with. Who gives it is much more important than what it looks like.
(although I did get my princess cut, white gold band. Made it even better than it already was!!)
My diamond looks a little bit bigger than that one, but you'll get the idea. There's a lot to be said for simplicity.

Heart shaped 1KT in the middle with princess cut 1Kt diamond on each side on a platinum band. But that's very pricey so mine is much smaller , oh i'm talking about the whole bridal set

I have had my engagement ring for nearly 23 years now and its a 9ct gold single solitaire diamond, it was just what I had always dreamt about when I was growing up and couldn't believe it when my husband gave me my dream ring when he proposed to me all those years ago, I hadn't told him what I really wanted because we had so little money and my ring was out of the scale of dreams at that time, but unbeknown to me he had saved so hard after asking my mom if she had any idea which type of engagement ring I really wanted, I still cherish my ring as much as my husband, so always keep that dream ring of yours in your minds eye and make sure you have it put on your finger by the man of your dreams, dreams do come true you just have to believe in them, good luck hope you get your man and ring soon.

Hmm. Probably a raised 1.5 - 2 ct wt Princess or Emerald cut diamond with two sapphires on either side set in the ring with baguettes on the side. The ring itself would be platinum or 22K gold. :-) I have never received my dream ring yet!
