It depends on the strength of the microwave....mine takes 1:30 -2 min, just till it boils. Then you take it out of the mic, put the tea in, and then let it steep. Don't actually put the tea in the microwave.

All microwave's have different power, so it will depend on it's wattage....mine is old and takes about 4-5 minutes to boil; others, maybe 1 minute....

I do it all the time. I have a large mug and heat it for 2:30. You'll have to find out what your machine and cup need.
