Many times they have had some trauma somewhere in their lives.

Others have watched a film and thought i would love to do that.

Others look in the news papers and see Rape, Murder and muggings (to name a few).

Some look at their waist line and say it is time i did something.

Some are looking for motivation or achievement, to say they have a black belt!

Some are lonely looking for friends.

Some lack confidence and are looking for empowerment.

Some get angry and are looking for control.

Some smoke and drink and are looking for discipline.

Some have a history of violence and find respect.

The truth many questions on this site get answers that say witch style is best to win in sport or street.

Martial arts no matter which style has an answer for all of the above you just need to find the right one.

What do I think of people who do Martial arts ---------

I Respect them no matter which art they do!

I teach everyone. I had had students that are as young as 4 and as old as 70. I've had kids with emotional problems and mentally handicapped adults. If taught correctly, some martial arts are for everyone.
Everyone I've met in my art have been really good people who like martial arts movies, want exercise, or don't want to feel intimidated by others.
They are all good people.

Usually, people who have studied martial arts have a lot of self discipline and control, and it's a great confidence booster...it's an excellent way to keep fit,and i highly recommend it for women.I took doce pares eskrima(A form of karate from the phillipines) for almost 5 years, and quit after I got my blackbelt because it became too time consuming...Between competition, practice, classes,& actual school/homework,i hardly had time for anything else!

The reason I study martial arts, is so i dont have to "fight" I can simply react to the negative forces that surround me everyday. Karate not just for fight, karate is for life balance--Mr Myagai!!!

BTW the way I'm mostly a jui jitsu guy!!

I watch many MMA videos. I think it's romance.

Nowadays, we can get Gun, knife and other weapons easily.
There's not real neccessary to learn Martial art.

However, Something in my mind tells me to learn something that can be used in One on One Fight without weapons.
Maybe, it's from fear about physical fight.

Just learning submission/control/position tech is just fun.
And praticing kick and punch is just fun.
Also, Sparring is fun, not because I can hurt someone,
but because I can really show off what I have done.

i think of:

1. they must really want to be a UFC or Final Fu fighter, or was "inspired" by watching it
2. most likely going to a fake dojo
3. fitness/health
4. to actually learn it

one of the above
