You can search census records from 1930 back at the Nat'l Archives in DC. The mormon's do a lot of genealogy work for religious reasons. Non-mormons can use their research centers and get them to get microfilm rolls you need.

The social security death index is usually findable online.

You can look up obits in newspaper archives at some colleges or the Libray of Congress.

Find a local historical society and talk to them.

Counties have land records and such on microfilm. Try a State Archives office.

I don't know. But I have relatives, a Priest, before he enter to cemenary he went to my home town and keep asking to my grand parents the origin of our family then he make a Family Tree. The bad is I dont know now if he already knew our family tree b/c he went to Rome and we dont see each other for years. So maybe start asking your great grand parents or grand parents if you still have, so it maybe help you. Goog Luck!
