I was wondering 'What do you think of the Australian Pentecostal church'

By the Pentecostal church I don’t mean the highly traditional Catholic and Anglican churches but rather the more modern relatable churches from the likes of the mega churches of Hillsong, CCC Oxford falls and Paradise community church, the Entertainment centres filled with worshipers to the evangelical Baptist, CCC or AOG… church on the corner.

Just curious

Wow, I assume from the events and churches that you name you live in Australia. I'm in adelaide quite close to paradise community church - just thought that was funny, i never seem to answer aussie's questions! I usually go to a Church of Christ, but occasionally due to working hours or out of interest I have gone to Paradise, and, sorry if i offend, but it's not my style. Not sure if you're aware but Paradise took down their crucifix because they have so many functions and events and thought they might offend people! Well, THAT offends me!! Clearly they are not worshipping the right thing. Anyway, often after visiting paradise I do not feel I've been to church, their sermons are too different for me, often the preacher actually says 'great to see some tears' which to me is not the point. Having said all that, Paradise and similar pentecostal places have brought a lot of people into the light, and do a lot of good in the community, so good on them for that. As for Hillsongs and Planetshakers and the like I think it's great that they bring young believers together for an awesome time of song and worship.
Hope I answered your question - interesting to know how you feel..? Add detail!
God bless

Well it does depend on the church. I have a little problem with speaking in tongues. Not the tongues part, just people randomly start speaking with out interpreters present. I went to a church once, where the ladies were barefoot running up and down the isles with scarves and their hair flying all over the place. I asked if this was a show or something and they said no, this happens every Sunday. We didn't go back! At the same church, they had two people preaching a man and a woman and they were doing a healing service later that day. I'm not saying it's wrong, just that I didn't like it. I guess I'm just a Baptist at heart. Please know that where ever they teach the fundamental principles of God, and teach that the Bible is the inherent Word of God and people come to know God. That is a good thing.

I didn't choose my church by denomination. A church is not simply a building it is a place to worship God. John 4:24. Our bodies are the temple of God. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. A church is a group of men and women who have been SAVED and called by God to serve. The church is the body of Christ. In 1 Corinthians 12:27, Paul writes "ye are the body of Christ."

The Biblical function of the church comes from Acts 2:41-47:

1. Teach God's Word. verse 42.
2. Fellowship with believers. verse 42
3. Prayer verse 42
4. The observance of the two ordinances of the church: baptism, verse 41 and the Lord's supper, verse 42.
5. To be a testimony of God's grace and power, verse. 43
6. For mutual assistance and ministry, verses 44-45
7. To reach out into the community, verses 46-47
8. To glorify God (the most important) verse. 47. Ephesians 3:21 and 4:11-16.

If a church follows those guidelines than it doesn't matter what the denomination it claims. A bible believing new testament church is what we should seek. For me that just happens to be an independent baptist church.

These churches are getting the real picture and the real value of christianity. To get excited about your worship is the way it should be as it brings on the holy spirit and empowers and lifts spirits to a height no traditional church could even imagine. How could you keep a child interested in communion when he could be dancing in the isles with laughter and warmth from the holy spirit? The pentacostal church believes that the holy spirit lives right here right now with us and is invited through worship and prayer.

I think that anyone who recognizes their spiritual need/hunger is on the road to a fulfilling future. I think there is one creator/God and that he wants us to worship him in a certain/acceptable way and has given us instructions to do so (and what NOT to do) in his guidebook... the Bible.

As for the many religions that USE that book, I feel some use it to their own advantage and some only teach half truths so as to "tickle the ears" of the hearers (meaning, tell them what they WANT to hear). I admire the few who try to teach what's really in the Bible, despite public opposition or whether or not it's "politically correct"

Although I laud anyone's attempt to serve God in a humble and meek attitude, unfortunately, I don't believe the pentacostal churches (old or new) have achieved complete "truth" or "honesty" with their listeners. All too often I hear their message as being watered down and NOT from the Bible.

Being a person that wants to serve God the way HE wants to be served and not merely how "I THINK" he should be (as I realize I am imperfect and nothing I think would be perfect, but only what God says is because he IS perfect and knows perfectly what's best for us and what he wishes of us) ... I can not condone their teachings.

2 Timothy 3:16, 17 states “All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.” The inspired Scriptures, then, are beneficial for teaching right doctrine and right conduct, setting things straight in our minds and lives, and reproving and disciplining us so that we may walk humbly in truth and righteousness. By submitting ourselves to the teaching of God’s Word, we may become “God’s fellow workers.” (1 Cor. 3:9) There is no greater privilege on earth today than for one to be busy in God’s work as the ‘fully competent and completely equipped man of God.’

These are false worship and they do not foster true Bible study but its more like entertaining than actually worshipping. Did Jesus have a mega church when he was on earth. He specifically states that we are called to take up our cross and follow Him. If they were preaching true Bible facts then it would be fine but they are not.
